of Social Issues Introduction
The issue identified to be discussed
in this persuasive speech is a social issue of our society which is “racial
profiling”. We live in a society where human being are sub-classified based on
races. Races enable us to identify the ancestors and belongings of a person. It
supports us to understand personality attributes, characteristics, and qualities
of a person based on his/her family backgrounds. In general, it brings us
several benefits in identifying other people and present our self in a
community concerning our family backgrounds (Opentextbc.ca, 2020).
of Social Issues Racial
Profiling
Do we think races are made only for a good
purpose? Is biological identification the only reason for races? Or is it a
trigger for social issues and inhumanity practices in our society? In reality,
racial profiling is in use to identify the social status of a person. In many
countries around the world, racial profiling is the major social issue because
of which many people find themselves unable to work and live properly (Little, 2014).
Apart, I am also willing to represent
the big picture of the overall impact of this social issue on the normal life
in our society and specifically on the subordinated group. My motivation behind
addressing this social issue is to highlight the possible negative consequences
associated with racial profiling. Moreover, I would also throw light on
increasing cases of stereotyping, discrimination, and prejudice in our
community as a result of this racial profiling.
Racial profiling represents the
discriminative practices by law enforcement officials for any specifically targeted
individual based on his/her race, religion, or ethnicity. Racial profiling
causes insecurities and abnormal treatment at workplaces because of illogical
stereotyping associated with a specific race. For instance, Muslims community are
targeted for the World Trade Center attack with the absence of any logical
connection (Aclu.org, 2020).
Recently, the US community is
having a burning question of racial profiling. The case of killing George Floyd
is a current social issue supported by racial discriminative behaviours in the
United States. According to the media reports, George Floyd was a black man of
46-years age. He was arrested in Minneapolis because of counterfeit bill
allegedly use. Briefly speaking, he was killed by a white policeman who knelt
on his neck for nine minutes with attention to tease him. Before dying a couple
of times he said that he is unable to breathe. Still, white policeman Derek
Chauvin did not remove his knee from his neck. After struggling to breathe for
nine minutes he died in the end. This case is not the only inhuman case recorded
in US history for racial profiling. Such unethical and discriminative incidents
are quite common in this advanced society. A general perception for the US is
that the US provides the freedom to its citizens and an ethical environment
with strict rules and regulations for society. Even if such cases are possible
in this community then surely racial profiling is the most important social
issue of the present time. Racial profiling is now only generating barriers for
the advancement and betterment of life of black people and sub-ordinated groups
in our society but it is also allowing threats for the life of these people.
In many areas around the world, innocent
people are being killed based on these races differences. Is it seems ethical
to us? Should we allow racial profiling destroys our societies with the
illogical and discriminative classification of the human being. Of course not.
Racial profiling not only influencing the life of people belonging to a
specific race only. Sometimes, a discriminative action taken against one race
creates destructive outcomes for the whole society. Continuing to the case of
George Floyd, the cross country protest is shaking the economy of Americans.
Several outlets of brands were looted during protecting. A recent survey found
that more than 60% of the people involved in this protection are white people. People belonging to four main races, Asian, Hispanic,
black and white are actively involved in the protest against US President Donald
Trump who supported the white policeman for killing George Floyd by a
discriminative official statement regarding this case (PARKER, HOROWITZ, & ANDERSON, 2020).
of Social Issues Conclusion
Concluding this persuasive speech, racial
profiling is an important social issue that influences the daily life of many
people in our society. From educational barriers to career barriers and from discriminative
behaviour to threats for the life of these subordinated groups, all social
issues are backed by this racial profiling. The discussion concludes that we cannot
allow white people to kill innocent black people neither we allow black people
to create issues for white people. Instead, this social issue should be
controlled by the government and regulatory authorities of our societies. Some
serious actions are required to be taken against race-based discrimination and
stereotyping for the removal of such social issues.
