I want to establish a good
relationship with every staff member and every student, not only with me but
also within and between the school members, to make sure that all students are
being heard. In conclusion, I want to unify everyone in the school building. In
addition to it, I want to ensure that I customize the learning plan according
to the needs of each student. In this manner, I will be able to provide
students with a custom style that helps them in acquiring knowledge and
necessary concepts without experiencing any issue or difficulty. I will also
establish a culture of collaboration which will encourage students to speak up
and communicate. It will help them develop skills of teamwork.
1. How will (do) you go about finding out about
students' attitudes and feelings about your class?
In order to find about the
feelings and attitudes of students about the class, I will develop an open and
collaborative culture within the class. In such an environment, every student
will be encouraged to speak up and talk about their issues. Students often
hesitate to discuss their problems and issues with the teacher because the
attitude of teacher towards the students is not find and most teachers tend to
remain strict and harsh. I will not act in this manner and I will remain open
and friendly to students. In this manner, I will encourage students to talk
about how they feel with the class and whether they experience any problems
with how the class proceeds.
2. An experienced teacher offers you the
following advice: “When you are teaching, be sure to command the respect of
your students immediately and all will go well.” How do you feel about this?
It is certainly true that
for a teacher to make students learn and behave in an effective manner,
students should respect the teacher. However, it is important to note while
commanding the respect of students, teachers tend to be harsh and while
students respect such a teacher from the front, they do not consider him/her as
a good teacher. I do not want that to happen and in order to gain both the
respect of students while promoting a friendly environment, I will spend some
time talking to students and how the class will be working. I will tell
students that we will remain open and friendly but respect is something that
cannot be tolerated. This will help me in gaining their respect.
3. How do you go about deciding what it is that
should be taught in your class?
When it comes to what
should be taught in the class, it will be decided by the school and I will
teach materials according to the curriculum. Following this curriculum will
help me in conveying only the necessary and essential concepts to students. Besides
the necessary materials, there are some specific things that I will teach
students such as values, ethics, and morality. These side lessons will have one
aim and that will be to build students into better humans. I believe that
students need more than just knowledge-related concepts. They also need
materials that can help them in becoming better persons. I want them to be
efficient in studying and also know how to behave and treat other people.
4. A parent comes to you and complains that what
you are teaching his child is irrelevant to the child’s needs. How would you
respond?
If a parent comes to me and
complains that I am teaching irrelevant things to a child then there are a
number of things that I will do. First of all, I ensure that I am being
respectful towards the parent and I am practicing integrity while consulting the
parent. Moving on, I will explain that the actual intent behind teaching these
materials to the child. I will tell the parent that for supplementing the actual
learning material, there is a need of complementary material. If a teacher only
focuses on learning material, it only causes students to lose the track of
class become disinterested. It not only slows the growth of students but also
creates difficulties for students. To ensure that the child does not experience
such a thing, supplementary materials are also being taught to the child.
5. What do you think will (does) provide you
with the greatest pleasure in teaching?
As a teacher, watching and
observing the students actually take interest in their studies and acquiring
knowledge without experiencing any difficulty would provide me with the
greatest pleasure. Another important thing that will serve to provide me with
pleasure is that children are not just great students but they are also on the
path of becoming good people. I want students to not only become good students
but I also want them to be good humans. These are the things that will serve to
provide me with pleasure. Although there are a number of other things such as
students being open and collaborative with other students that will make me
happy, these above described things will make me happy the most.
6. When you have some free time, what do you
enjoy doing the most?
When I have some free time
to spend with the students, I will engage with students in some fun activities
such as riddles and even games. Although I can utilize this free time in
teaching students some other materials relevant to their curriculum, I would
not do that because I want to ensure that students become more relaxed and
happy with what they are studying and their class. Teachers should understand
that such fun activities are essential for keeping students interested in the
class, and willing to learn everything. In addition to these activities, I will
also make the use of this free time for telling students with some interesting
facts about the world and different nations.
7. How do you go about finding what students are
good at?
Most teachers tend to
perform surveys and even engage students in different types of activities to
identify the skills and abilities of students. I believe that such an approach
is quite time-consuming. Considering the fact that I would develop an engaging
and open environment in the class, it will enable students to speak up without
much issue. Thus, instead of conducting a survey, I will just ask students what
they like to do the most and what their hobbies are. This will reveal critical
information about the skills and abilities for students. For instance, if a
student likes to draw then it is highly possible that he will be good at it.
Even if he is not good, his passion will allow him to become good gradually.
8. Would you rather try a lot of way-out
teaching strategies or would you rather try to perfect the approaches that work
best for you? Explain your position.
I have explained it in the
previous questions that I will make the use of unique strategies for ensuring
that students do not become disinterested with the class and they are
interested in acquiring knowledge. Thus, I will make the use of way-out
teaching strategies that can help students in not only acquiring the knowledge
but can also help them in becoming what they desire. For instance, if I
pressurize students, it will only create issues and difficulties for them. This
will not facilitate their learning. Thus, I will utilize different strategies
that can produce decent results and can help students in not only acquiring the
necessary knowledge but also skills that will help them later in their career
and life.
9. Do you like to teach with an overall plan in
mind for the year, or would you rather just teach some interesting things and
let the process determine the results? Explain your position
I would teach students with
an overall plan in mind and would not teach some interesting things. Without a
proper plan, it would not be possible for students to acquire all the necessary
concepts and knowledge as determined by their curriculum. It is quite important
to note that for students, there should always be a proper plan according to
which the teacher must advance. Without a plan, it would not be possible for
students to learn all the important materials. In fact, without an effective
plan, it is highly possible that students might not even learn relevant
concepts and they might learn things that are not useful for them. Thus, I
would teach with an overall plan in mind.
10. A student is doing poorly in your class. You
talk to her, and she tells you that she considers you to be the poorest teacher
she has ever met. What would you do?
If a student tells me that
I am the poorest teachers then instead of being dissatisfied with it or being
angry, I would talk to the student in a gentle and softer manner. In addition
to it, I will ask her why she considers me the poorest and if she has some
issues then she should discuss with me. After all, as her teacher, I have the
responsibility of identifying her issues and problems, and resolving them. I am
sure that this approach will not only be comfortable for the student but it
will also make her reveal what type of problems and issues she is experiencing.
Once I am aware of the issues and difficulties that she is experiencing, I will
on resolving these issues.
11. If there were absolutely no restrictions
placed upon you, what would you want to do in life?
If there were no
restrictions placed on me, I would make it my ambition to help others through
ethical means. Even if there are no limitations that serve to bind me, I would
not go out of my moral and ethical ways. It is important to note that we are
able to live properly because there are certain moral and ethical limits placed
on us. Thus, even without them, I would continue to ensure that I am not doing
anything illegal, unethical, or immoral. Instead of it, I will make it my aim
to do something that will help other people and will facilitate their lives. In
modern times, people lead difficult lives and I will make sure that I am
investing efforts in making their lives easier financially.
