Leadership Self Reflection and Plan Essay

Category: Leadership Paper Type: Essay Writing Reference: APA Words: 1080

It’s the desire of every leader to be part of a team that is characterized by great chemistry, work ethics and high performance. This phenomenon has led to a drastic paradigm shift to the way leadership is perceived.  Traditionally, a leader was viewed as a hero or the ultimate authority in an organization. In contemporary times, a great leader is more of a team builder by helping others achieve their best (Schwarz, Newman, Cooper, & Eva, 2016). This kind of leadership style is very advantages because it’s possible for the leader to employees’ strengths and weakness, and hence, he can provide a talent-based dynamic that can be most effective. Action Centered Leadership theory by John Adair explain team leadership from three perspectives namely achieving the task by identifying the vision and objectives of the group, sustainable management of the group and managing individuals strengths and weaknesses (Adair, 2011).In need to create sustainable platform where PAs can serve people in need internationally as a form of charity. It’s important that the candidates possess various strengths in terms of their leadership skills that are well arraigned with Action Centered Leadership theory.

Reflection on Leadership and Plan

In my upcoming PA school venture, I will be equipped with the ultimate tool knowledge of medicine, which will allow me to fulfil my calling to help my fellow-men. While I am a PA student, I will be in contact with various individuals and scenario that will prepare me significantly to become a well-rounded leader. In the past, my biggest epiphany on team leadership occurred when I was working HIV patients in Ethiopia. Throughout those experiences, I have managed to help so many people and grow as a person. These aspects have helped my dedication to becoming a good leader by becoming a great PA. By being open-minded, I have always accepted constructive critics that helped me work on my major weaknesses, thanks to my eagerness to learn from everybody regardless of the educational background level. My strengths notwithstanding, I believe I have an Opportunity for improvement from my school and peers.  I am accepted to a great school with great professors to shape me in becoming a great, ethics oriented, knowledgeable PA. Most importantly, I believe I can learn so much from my classmates, my mentor and my instructors in regards to providing the best care.

I am also characterized by some insignificant though Potential challenges. Sometimes, I notice myself having a hard time expressing myself to the extent of what I want, and I would like to work on it. Hence, it would be important if I worked on my emotional intelligence.

Goals of Leadership and Plan

The reflection analysis shows clearly that my journey to achieving the relevant skills for the program is pretty much significant, having understood the definition of leadership.  However, there is still room for more improvement so that I can become an ultimate PA which can be well integrated into the mission that would see me move internationally to hardship areas. It is in this light that I have set a couple of goals that would help me in this journey.

Time-Bound: 3 years

Drawbacks of Leadership Self Reflection and Plan

The journey to accomplishing the set goals is mulled by numerous challenges that are typical of developing countries. Because of poor policies and limited resources, countries such as Ethiopia, don’t have PAs, and they do not have a scope of practice ground. Additionally, the PA Program’s mission is also expected to suffer from the adverse living condition, especially on finding accommodation in overseas for the volunteers. This makes it very hard, especially for the first time the Pas visit these countries. More importantly, the needy countries are not always open for help. With revolutions all over the word, intrusion from the west is seen as decolonization and hence most governments do not allow it.

Resources of Leadership Self Reflection and Plan

In the process to achieve the objectives, I will need various resources from both the public and private stakeholders. For Goal #1 and 2, I will need the ministry of health to help me with necessary avenues so that I can perform the necessary public sensitization on the need to offer help to the needy. This public sensitization can be on sponsored online and print media adverts to ensure bigger reach.  To achieve goal Number 3 and 4, I will need to conduct numerous workshops on the ground. This will involve mobilizing the available local medical personnel’s. With the help of mentors and experienced Pas, I will be able to take through some kind of short induction.

 Evaluation plan

For the need to check the progress of any project, the evaluation plan comes in handy. The evaluation plans measure the level to which the set objectives have been or not been achieved. This important because it helps identify the underlying success factors.
