School is one place that everyone
will have to be there in the specific times of their life. But do you know what
the importance of school is? The answer to this question is that school is
considered to be important because it makes us learn everything about the world
surround us. Plus, it also gives us all the equipment such as ethic in work,
social talents, behavior, and everything we need for the success of our future
life as well (Ebert & Culyer, 2010).
We all need to know more for what
is exactly the purpose of schooling for our life to motivate ourselves and also
our generation to go for the highest level of education they can. Since the
nature of students are different, some of them might easily motivate themselves
to study well in school, but, some of them might do not any motivation at all.
For this reason, the role of teachers also quite essential in defining the
lesson for the students to learn at school as well. So, in this paper, we will
discuss all of those points properly.
Purpose of schooling
If we are speaking about the
purpose of schooling, there are many purposes that some sociologists have been
arguing so far. However, they have highlighted for four main purposes of
schooling (Montgomery & Kehoe, 2015) mentioned such as:
·
For the academic purposes like the enhancement
of reading or mathematical skills of the students
·
For the economic purpose like the preparation
for the future job of the students
·
For the social purpose like the enhancement of
moral as well as the social responsibility of the students
·
For political purposes like the integration of
immigrants
One thing that we have to keep in mind that schooling has
more importance than just for getting any job. Instead, schooling gives the
power to every single person to think and act properly. Schooling basically
aims to make us ready to face our life as an independent person.
Nature of the student of the School
Every single individual
definitely grows his or her own style of knowledge which based on their
different background, talents, experiences, expectations, interests, learning
style, family background, their likes and also dislikes, and so on. Therefore,
the teachers should not have the same expectation for different students, since
they come with a different brain and different capabilities as well. Even the
level of motivation between one student to another one also could be different.
However, as long as they want to learn and have the motivation to understand
the importance and fundamental point of schooling for their lives, then
basically, they all have the same common, which is, trying to get a good
education at school to prepare them for their future lives (National
Research Council, Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education,
Board on Behavioral, Cognitive, and Sensory Sciences, Committee on
Developments in the Science of Learning with additional material from the
Committee on Learning Researc, 2010).
A teacher’s role of the School
A teacher's role is obviously
more than only making plans and giving the lessons for the students. The fact
that the teacher has more time to spend with the students could make the
teacher to be considered as the third parent for the students. In fact,
teachers could be a perfect role model designed for their students, especially
for the students that might have a lack of attention from their own family. In
these present days, the role of teachers is significantly got modified and
become more complicated from the previous days. The role of teachers are
mentioned nowadays such as support the students to use the knowledge that they
got into their lives, give the counselling for the students, and also motivate
the students to adapt the learning techniques, and also inspire the students to
learn as well (Niemi, Auli Toom, & Lavonen,
2018).
Your view of the current curriculum (the subject you intend to teach) (you
can choose any subject)
The subject that I intend to
teach is psychology since I am interested in teaching on the behaviors of the
people, along with the emotional operations as well. In my opinion, the current
curriculum for psychology subject has been useful to teach the students and
give them proper understanding about the occasions, how to treat the issues in
mental health, matters around the employments, and also teach the students to
improve their personal skills as well. The current curriculum of psychology has
covered the certain important areas of study, including the natural sciences,
the social sciences, and also the humanity (Keith, 2018).
Conclusion on the School
Teachers and students are two terms that are
definitely cannot be separated if we are discussing about schooling and the
purposes of schooling itself. Schooling has the purposes which aim to prepare
the students to face any occasions in their future lives, and the teachers have
a great role in motivating the students to get the proper education from
schooling. However, the teachers also need to realize that every student are
different as every single individual does not have the same mind, talents, or
the same ability as well. Therefore, teachers must able to figure out the
strategic plan and put in practice to motivate the students and give the best
education for them.
