In
recent years, financial services have experienced immense growth due to the
technological advancement. Today many financial institutions, organizations,
and the banks have started to provide services online and thus have improved
their way to provide convenience to their customers (Rampton, 2017). The online
banking, for instance, has provided huge convenience to the customers since now
they only have to turn on their devices and through the bank’s website or an
application they can perform any task which they want such as cash deposit,
withdrawal or other payments (Dahlberg, Mallat, Ondrus, &
Zmijewska, 2017).
The mobile
technology and mobile devices huge penetration have producer opportunities for
the business through the mobile infrastructure. All of these opportunities are
in terms of purchasing, communications, dealings, trade and so on. The Mobile
commerce also involves the products delivery and the services through the mobile
knowledge that allow the activities of internet commerce, with no limitations
of time (Singh, Srivastava, &
R.K.Srivastava, 2010).
In
the future, it is quite obvious that technology would take over the traditional
ways of doing things(Dahlberg, Mallat, Ondrus, & Zmijewska, 2017). It is, therefore,
important for businesses as well as individuals to adapt themselves according
to the change otherwise they might be left behind. In addition to online
banking, e-commerce is also experiencing growth which means that there is a
huge potential for the payment service providers in the country. The merchants
can use the mobile payment platform to perform various payments. This will not
only reduce the time but will also allow the merchants to increase their
efficiency. In order to increase efficiency, businesses have to perform tasks
in less amount of time and thus it is necessary to increase merchants trust by
customers in relation to mobile payment.
That being said, it is important to find out ways through which the
trust of the merchants regarding the mobile payment can be improved (Rampton,
2017).
1.2 Problem
Statement of Building Merchant’s trust on Mobile
Payments in Tanzania
In
the Tanzania market the customers are finding it hard to trust the mobile
payment services through mobile platforms. This situation is also creating
problems for the merchants’ in the Tanzania market to get more profit
out of their jobs. The customers are having some security issues that restrict
them to transfer larger amount through mobile services. According to
Bank of Tanzania statistics, by June 2016 there were 19,488,309, active mobile
money users who transact money amount to 129,270,251 trillion Tanzanian Shillings
of which only 4,939,795 trillion Tanzanian Shillings around 3.82% of total
transactions made, was online mobile payments(Bank of Tanzania, 2018/04/02). According
to(Gannamaneni, Ondrus and Lyytinen, 2015)
in their post failure analysis of mobile payment platforms study, three factors
can contribute to these failures, which are: lack of collaboration between the
stake holders, no technological standard and low value added for consumers and
merchants compared to existing payment methods. In this research paper the possible
methods of building customers trust on merchants are discussed. The trust of
the customers can build by changing the attitudes of merchants towards
customers and government should also implement some law and regulations on the
mobile payment so the customers not feel hesitate while doing mobile payments.
1.3 Aim
and Objectives of Building Merchant’s trust on
Mobile Payments in Tanzania
1.3.1 Aim of Building
Merchant’s trust on Mobile Payments in Tanzania
The
main objective of this study is to investigate the trends of mobile payment
services in the market of Tanzania. In this study the research is conducted to
know about the potential issues the customers are facing in mobile transactions
and its effect on the customers trust on the merchants in the market.
1.3.2
Specific Objectives of Building Merchant’s trust on Mobile Payments in Tanzania
The following are
some specific research objectives developed for this research study.
1.
To analyses the trends
of mobile payment across mobile platforms in Tanzania
2.
To identify possible ways
that can be used to build the merchant usage trust regarding the use of mobile
platforms for payments.
3.
To study about customers trust development in
the Merchant on money transaction through mobile.
1.4 Research
Questions of Building Merchant’s trust on Mobile
Payments in Tanzania
This study
intends to answer the following research questions:
1: How the trust of
customers can be built by merchants for mobile payment across mobile platforms
in Tanzania?
2: What are the
potential ways in which the merchants and customers of mobile payment services
relationship can be improved?
3: What role do
merchants play in the trust building of the customers on the mobile payment
services?
1.5 The
significance of Research of Building Merchant’s
trust on Mobile Payments in Tanzania
This
study is significant because it is an important contribution towards the literature
on Building Merchant Usage Trust on Mobile Payment across
Mobile platforms. This study would help the merchants to know about
the expectations of the customers and their doubts about the mobile payments.
The government policy makers can also use the data gathered in the research to
know about the potential security issues in using the customer’s mobile payment
services. This research study has huge significance because not only the study
is not only identifying the ways through which the trust of the merchants can
be build but will also prove beneficial for taking steps which can make the
mobile payment platforms more secure and convenient for the merchants. If the
trust of the merchants is going to be built than the mobile payment platform
will experience growth which means that through this is likely to grow the
economy of Tanzania. Therefore, the study is important from economic point of
view as well. Moreover in future the researchers can use this study for further
studying the importance of mobile platforms. (Zhou, 2011)
1.6 The scope
of Research of Building Merchant’s trust on Mobile
Payments in Tanzania
This
research study will focus on the merchant’s role in the usage of mobile payment
platforms. This research is going to provide the analysis on the ways that help
the merchant to build the trust with the customers in mobile payment through
the platforms of mobile. Therefore, this research will add to the existing
research on the related topic. The study will be a high-quality and productive
source of knowledge for the community of research. The recommendations about
the future and direction of research are also the cause for taking the research
further. As a result, the academicians and the researchers will get advantages
from the study. Consequently, this present research is fairly significant. So
in the near future the study is likely to have a broad scope as the topic of
research is about the recent trends in the market not only in the Tanzania and all
around the world.
