It is important to understand
that obesity is a complex issue and it can have various aspects to understand
that why it happens. There can be different reasons for obesity to happen for
anyone like lack of any kind of activity in daily routine as well as over
eating. But for some others, obesity can be caused by genetic factors, even the
food intake is at appropriate level. But whatever the causes of obesity are,
the main thing is that it has many bad effects and issues on human health and a
person may not be able to live a normal life like others. The obesity can also
keep a person in danger of getting different other diseases more frequently
than any other normal person. An obese person will have excessive amount of
body fats, and it will have weight, which would be beyond the limits of ideal
body weight.
That’s why, American Medical
Association gave its verdict in 2013 that obesity is a disease. AMA established
the fact that obesity is important to be taken as a disease so that medical
field as well as insurance companies look at it more seriously, and consider
its severity for a person’s health. One of the AMA members said that “Recognizing obesity as a disease will help
change the way the medical community tackles this complex issue that affects
approximately one in three Americans.” Moreover, considering it as a
disease will also help to fight the issue with more commitment. The obesity puts
a person in danger of other related diseases like heart disease, type 2
diabetes. That’s why, obesity should be considered as a disease so that one
cannot take it lightly that it is just an outcome of overeating. But obesity
can cause various issues for a person, and if weight gain is not understood closely,
then weight can beyond normal limits that living a normal become impossible for
the person with excessive obesity (Fitzgerald, 2013)
