Nowadays, both private and public
institutions are being penetrated by smartphone technology and nevertheless,
the emerging smartphone technology is becoming an effective tool for teaching,
learning and being experienced for secondary level students. The use of mobile
phones in secondary education has pushed the education standard toward a
tremendous boost in terms of standard and quality. In this report, there would
be detailed discussion on the use of mobile phones in the secondary education. Smartphone technology can better engage
students in learning experiences and help them improve their performances. The mobile
phone features and specifications add a significant dimension to activities of
learning that are supported to secondary educational environment as well as
learners. In this paper, mobile technology integration with teaching practices
at the secondary education level are presented in brief and use to mobile phone
technology at the secondary level is discussed in detail.
Explanation of Smart Phone Uses in Secondary Education
No one can live without using a
mobile phone. Proper researches are being held that explains how much the use
of mobile can be more effective and beneficial for the users. In the
educational field, all information and data can be available on mobile, and
with this student can maintain their work by connecting their teachers and have
an online discussion with the friends related to assignments. So, it is the
most important technology at present that provides all the facilities to the
students to fulfil their educational requirement. Now we are going to talk
about the usage of mobile phones in the secondary schools.
The usage of mobile phones for
education purpose is increasing exponentially. For students, all the
assignments and notes are available on internet and teachers will be sharing their
notes on the internet, it can also help the students, and they only carry a
smartphone instead of many books and notes.
This may be a good thing to some
extent; it will change the habit of students related to book reading because
the book reading habit is very important and must be developed in the students
and now the students can use the digital books in their phones and read them anytime,
anywhere they want. But in developing countries, these approaches and
innovative educational technologies are not practiced widely.
This would increase the
engagement and student achievement as well as revolutionize instruction with
mobile learning and integrating cell phone technologies such as Netbooks,
i Pads, i Pods, e-readers and even PDAs. It is very important to investigate the
goal related to the adaptable effects of mobile phone that are going to
implement in the education system for improving the learning and the teaching.
Determine the possible challenges related to the usage of mobile phone technologies
and show the positive side of mobile usage and many countries are going to
shift to this technology by implementing this in their schools for the better
learning of students. According to the research conduct by Tiro Mokgoare, (2012), it is reviewed that there
is a need to improve the usage of mobile technology to improve the overall learning
and teaching skills in a most effective manner. At secondary school, students
are going to reach that age where they have their mobile phones, and without
any special facilitation, they are in a good position to use them. In many
countries, mobile learning technology is going to be piloted.
The rule that schools can use
mobile phones to students require time and a proper investigation because
everything has two sides positive and negative. So, to consider its negative
effects, proper research must be taken to determine the usage of mobile phones
in the schools. Teacher research on the group of students and determine how
their learning and capability we're going to increase with the using of mobile
phone in schools and how their learning effect in a negative way. According to
the research conduct by Katarzyna, (2017), it
is reviewed that the teachers explain that the learning of students going to
increase as they adopt new and latest technologies for their regular usage.
Basically the usage of mobile phones and computers give more knowledge and
learning skills to students as they perform in the most effective manner when
they learn how to use new and innovative technologies and with this so it's up
to the knowledge and skills related to students and how they use this
technology or facility to obtain more and more knowledge.
According to the research conduct
by UDOH
(2015), it is reviewed that teachers also said that the usage of
mobile phones are very helpful for students as they get maximum knowledge in
the class duration as guided by the teacher and then they search more and more
knowledge and skills by using internet under the instruction of teacher, so
they didn't search out different books to get material related to their studies.
Different subjects have different requirements like math need complicated
calculation, and by using mobile phones, most complicated data can be found out
in a few seconds and use by the students. Science is the subject that requires
many technical studies according to human being and different living organisms
so mobile help students in this regard that they search out all the relevant
material in their class, so they get better discussion and knowledge related to
that topic.
According to the research conduct
by it is reviewed that Same as chemistry; it also requires practice and
discussion of the experiment by different scientist that provide a better
understanding to student related to their subject and all this stuff easily
available to students during their class by the usage of mobile phone. So,
there are many subjects that need further discussions and mobile phone to help
them to get new and informative material regarding their knowledge. From
occasional use of computers, an opportunity provided by the mobile technology
for brings a fundamental change in the education system especially related to
classrooms that enhance the standard of classrooms and more than this.
According to Russell, (2018), it is reviewed that Students
used different features very much like a camera to take photos of the notes,
calendar and alarms. This also said by a student that these devices are very
helpful in remembering different things and perform very well in completing
their homework. Study shows that for the classroom, the mobile is a good
learning tool for the study. Many students feel that after using such devices
that can explore the actual benefits of education. Both at home and school,
they can use its many features and find out a new and creative way to employ
these features and improve the presentation of their schoolwork. But there are
some students who consider that the usage of mobile in school is a risk for the
students
According to the research conduct
by Hartline-Young, (2008), it is reviewed
that there are still some students who support the ban of mobile phones in the
school as they consider that mobile show negative effects on the study of
students and their focus going to distract. But many students also want to use
mobile phones during their school [4],. It is the
responsibility of the school management to make such an effective policy for
the usage of mobile phone in school and present a clear and strict policy for
the usage of mobile phones in the classroom. It also tells the limitations as
well so the mobile phone integration problem going to be eliminated by the
support of school management. In determining the policy, the stakeholders
consider the benefits and barriers carefully for the students.
According to the research conduct
by Humanize, Admiral, Wanamaker, & Dam, (2009),
it is reviewed that this is all the thoughts of students, and now we
consider what the teachers think related to that topic. Teachers also want to
use mobile phones to keep their data maintain like documents the student work
and take attendance on mobile. They also used a web-based software application
that provides test, quizzes, assignments and photographs for the students
related to their subject and enhances their knowledge and skills. Every student
data must be kept by teachers, and they also conduct parent's teacher meeting
and provide all the information related to their child in one click. Teachers
may conduct their class at any place that provides easy to them to keep there
all data in their hands. The proper need of exploration and personal research
must be required to adopting the technique of mobile devices during the class
of in school and show the only positive aspect of the devices but it also the
responsibility of school management to adopt such effective and suitable
policies that help students but in a secure way.
As this technology has negative
effects in huge quantity with the positive effects, so proper care and
attention must be required while using such technology. The actual usage of
mobile devices in the class give many benefits like transferring file between
school and home, using GASP to identify
location, email system of the school going to connect, foreign language
podcasts understanding and keep in record, creating short narrative movies,
accessing revision sites on internet, for further learning keep record of
teacher poem reading, connected remotely to school learning platform,
synchronizing calendar or timetable and setting reminder, receiving SIMS and
email reminder from teachers, between group members delivering the project
material, photographing text for future review, taking pictures of the
e-portfolios design models , also capture
the using items and its final decision of experiment for analyzing and
timing experiment with stopwatch.
According to the research conduct
by Val, Rash id, & Elder, (2010), it
is reviewed that, we consider that the usage of mobile technology in the school
is very effective and helpful for the students, but we also must consider its
negative effects. So, it's the main role of school and its management about how
they provide better opportunities and facilities to a student to enhance their
skills and knowledge in the most effective manner. For this school management
has to develop proper culture that promote the usage of mobile devices in
classrooms and also guide the parents about this policy, for bringing new and
positive change the teachers must support the school culture and provide better
guidance to all their students related to their new technology and guide them
on how to use this for improving their study.
Teachers also provide students
with different curriculum activities that belong to enhancing their knowledge
and by using mobile devices to learn and teach them a new and innovative way of
creation and explore their projects in a most effective manner. Teachers are
going to adopt professional development during their knowledge and learning and
use in teaching, so they deliver advance and improved learning techniques to
students. The main thing which is considered the most keenly is the way with
which these technologies have been implemented. The usage of mobile also common
in the schools that support students to bring their mobile phones and do their
all tasks related to study on mobile.
According to the research conduct
by UDOH, (2015), it is reviewed that It
may lead to great opportunities in teaching and learning that the
implementation of mobile learning through mobile phones. But in developing
countries, these approaches and innovative educational technologies are not practiced
widely. The main issue arises by the various report is that it should mobile
phones also have a positive side and to accommodate the usage and
implementation of the mobile phones technologies in school happen by
development and policy changes through enhancement. A mobile phone can carry
the tremendous potential to assist the learning of people every whereas
considering that the mobile phones are the most interactive information and
communication technology that may be used to deliver and improve the education.
It is going to be a controversial
topic of debate by teachers and parents, the usage of mobile phones in the
school by students. One thought of parents explains the usage of mobile phones
is due to security purposes as they are kept in touch with their parents at
every time. These parents are supporting
the usage of mobile phones in the students, and they give them smartphones for
usage. The thought of such parents is going to advance, and they ignore that
how the usage of mobile phone in the excess period will distract their
mentality and, they might face many problems due to the usage of mobile phones.
But on the other side, there are also such parents who didn't support the usage
of mobile phones and explain that mobile phones may use for undesired purposes,
and this will disrupt messages to others, playing games, taking photographs and
also use as cheating in the tests. Students waste their mist of time in a
distracted way as using mobile phones, and they didn't get important
information from the lectures. Parents also complain that by using mobile
phones, their children went far from them and didn't want to spend time with
us.
There are many schools that
implement the policies that during school hours, restrict students from the
usage of mobile phones to avoid the distraction because of mobile phones. With
this, some use jamming devices in their location, but this would be considered
as illegal and not allow using at every place. It's the responsibility of the
school management to use such software that controls and restrict the usage of
mobile phones of a student during school hours to minimize the distraction and
going to avoid for the unproductive usage. This is also considered by many
types of research that students are going to use face book or Google or Twitter
instead of using in a constructive manner. They were only watching or searching
entertainment items for the students and only wasting their time. Their focus
on the lecture of class also disturbed, and they didn't obtain complete
knowledge and at the end didn't show good results. So, the chances of misuse of
mobile phones are high as compare to informative usage of it. Many dangerous
results can be seen due to dysfunctional use of mobile phones.
The using mobile phone is going
to be an addiction in the male and female students in secondary school. For
taking research from different schools, a proper questioner is going to be
prepared that know the thoughts and point of view of students and teachers
related to the addiction of mobile phones and its positive usage. This will
help them to explore a new idea and share their feeling on this issue. It is
seen that many female students are willing to use mobile phones instead of male
students. They only concern with the positive and informative usage of mobile
phones, and with this, they support the usage of mobile phones in secondary
school. This is a very main and hot topic among students and parents. As many
problems are going to arise from few years due to access usage of mobile phones
in the students but at that time, they only use mobile in their home places,
and schools are not allowing them to bring their phones to school or any other
purposes. But now the usage in school also creates a problem for them as they
also misuse mobile phones in schools and appear many adverse effects due to
usage in school.
It is not immune to this dilemma
that the use of mobile phones in the education sector. From developed through
developing to underdeveloped countries the debate on the usage of mobile phones
in the class is going to on or not with the thoughts and views of many experts
related to the education field and positive and adverse views also appear. In
the education sector, the usage of mobile phones shows much harm effects more
than the good because of misapplication and misuse of the device among
students. Many educators and students are going to fill to use the mobile phone
effectively during school hours and utilize them beneficially. Many education
ministers offer the ban or seem to ban policies among many students for the
usage of mobile in the school hours and show how the performance of students
going to improve after implementing the ban policies. But our main concern is
to show how the usage of mobile phones show positive effects in the students
and their education by using m learning, adopt and develop educational
technologies and m-consulting for the in-depth exploration and pilot studies
and with this also bright future and deserves research attention.
For those who have mobile and
cannot attend the physical learning institute, the access to m learning going
to increase. It enables the learners to attention to studies according to their
capacities like cost, time, mobility, and so on as mobile learning makes
education most accessible. Mobile learning enables the learning at all-time
according to your requirement like after shift, at home or on the go, so mobile
technology is portable that means that mobile learning has no boundary. Mobile
learning also accessible in all those situations where the learner has cost
issues in their education. Teachers also want to use mobile phones to keep
their data maintain like documents the student work and take attendance on
mobile. For this, the school management has to develop a proper culture that
promotes the usage of mobile devices in classrooms and also guide the parents
about this policy. These parents are supporting the usage of mobile phones in
the students, and they give them smart phones for usage. Students waste their
mist of time in a distracted way as using the mobile phones, and they didn't
get important information from the lectures — mobile learning present great
learning in all those areas where environmental and infrastructure challenges
hinder other learning modalities. In developing countries, according to
cost-benefit Mobile learning consider as of great opportunity and student my
access knowledge and skills by using this advanced technology. It enhances the
effectiveness and efficiency of the education system and counselling
administration policy and significantly broadens the approach to consulting
material and quality education by increasing flexibility and decreasing the
cost. In keeping with new trends in communication technology, the new learning
is personalized, lifelong, ubiquitous, collaborative, situated and learner-center.
As the usage of mobile technology also going to increase that is durable,
ubiquitous, networked, user center and use personally. For personalized learning,
mobile phones are designed that response in diversity and difference in the
path of learning. Many facilities also provided for learners who are going to
obtain mobile learning at every place or at any time. For authentic learning
the mobile learning also facilitation designs that involve the projects of
relevance and interest of learner and target the real-world problems. It also
provides a basis for the new learning through interconnection and integration
as by providing efficient and inventive methods that mobile can suppose
facilitate the knowledge center learning so the learner can understand the
learning in depth instead of only memorizing the topic and understand a large
amount of information in a most effective manner. Mobile phones have great potential
to provide the learning facilities beyond the classroom and give knowledge of
learners in huge amount. The significant impact on learning through the usage
of mobile phones are enhancing the overall learning experience, the support
provided and subject clarified and share ideas related to information.
Conclusion on Smart Phone Uses in Secondary Education
Summing up the discussion about
the use of a mobile phone in secondary education it can be said that the usage
of mobile phones is very common and very important in the current period. But
among students of secondary school need proper attention and consider what the
needs of students that they want to use mobile phones, especially in the
schools are. It has many adverse effects with the hugely positive effects that
discuss earlier and present how the mobile learning and its usage enhance the
learning, knowledge and skills of the students in the most effective way. The
schools must make such policy according to the requirement of learning and for
the betterment of the students that the usage of mobile phones is allowed in
the schools or not and consider whether the usage of mobile affect the learning
and their performance or not. Because there are many adverse effects on the
positive effects, so proper guidance and instruction must be provided to
students before using mobile phones in school and at homes. Smartphone
technology can better engage students in learning experiences and help them
improve their performances. Their focus on the lecture of class also disturbed,
and they didn't obtain complete knowledge and at the end didn't show good
results. In the education sector, the
usage of mobile phones shows much harm effects more than the good because of
misapplication and misuse of the device among students. For those who have mobile and cannot attend
the physical learning institute, the access to m learning going to increase.
Mobile learning also accessible in all those situations where the learner has
cost issues in their education. It also provides a basis for the new learning
through interconnection and integration as by providing efficient and inventive
methods.
