Biblical Basis Of Advising
The Bible features many examples of advising. You may not realize how many until you start looking through the Bible with "advisor eyes." For example: angels sometimes gave God's orders to people; but other times they gave powerful advice, such as the angel who said to Joseph, betrothed to a pregnant Mary, "Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. . ." While Joseph took this as a command, the advisory element is very clear.
Your assignment is to find and explore a Biblical example of advising. (The advice and the response can each be good or bad.) Please "set the stage" by describing the pericope and its situation, and what happened within it. Analyze and evaluate what happened. Analyze and evaluate the actions of the people. Analyze and evaluate the results. Describe salient applications of these analyses and evaluations for advising in general, and for advising that you are or may be doing.
