The terms purpose and audience are key elements in the writing process. Thinking about your assignment in terms of the rhetorical situation can help guide you at the beginning of the writing process. Topic, audience, genre, style, opportunity, research, the writer, and purpose are just a few elements that make up the rhetorical situation.
Preparation: As you prepare to read and understand the process of writing an Argument essay, review the section in your textbook about "Purpose and Audience" pg. 151.
