African American Dance Critical Analysis Paper

For your final paper, you are to take the 10 Vocabulary Terms you worked with in Module #1 and utilize the terms to write a critical analysis on how African American dance practices have unsettled existing power structures and created a platform for Black labor, Black cultural ownership, Black self-ownership, and resistance. This paper should be written in Chicago style, double-spaced, minimum 3 pages, maximum 4 pages, and cite your work.

RADICAL – very different from the usual or traditional. Favoring extreme change in existing views, habits, or institutions.
PLEASURE – a state of gratification – sensual gratification – frivolous amusement – a source of delight or joy.

EMBODIED– to make concrete and perceptible – to represent in human or animal form.
COMMUNITY – The people with common interest living in a particular area – a group linked by a common policy.
PERFORMANCE – is a central element of social and cultural life, including not only theatre and dance but also forms of everyday life such as sacred rituals, storytelling, ethnicity, race, class, sex, and gender.
RACE – is principally a means of labeling, a politically motivated system of assigning people of color to a position outside the hegemonic mainstream of (white) Western civilization.
GENDER – is used to describe the characteristics of women, men, and the positions inside or outside of the woman man binary that are socially constructed.
IDENTITY – the characteristics, representations, and personality traits of an individual.
HIERARCHY – the classification of a group of people according to ability, economic. social, racial/ethnic, identity politics, or professional standing.
