Instructions: Argumentative Essay
Format: A minimum of 3 pages of text, double spaced, Times New Roman 12 point font
Assignment: How does violent media (i.e. TV, film, video games, etc.) affect our behavior? Can media representations of violence cause violent actions in real life? Explain your answer in a 3 page argumentative research paper. As part of your essay, you must make reference to at least 2 outside sources and cite them using proper MLA format
Expectations: This is an argumentative essay. That means your thesis will take a clear stance on the issue by the end of the introductory paragraph and defend/explain that stance throughout the essay's body paragraphs. You must also use references to research as part of your argument.
Advice: Your thesis statement should be arguable and specific – take a clear stance on whether or not you believe violent media has an effect on violent behavior in real life. Make effective use of outside sources. You may use personal experience only if it is in service of your argument (i.e. to illustrate one of your points about violent media).
Purpose: Demonstrate your ability to develop a coherent, thesis-driven argumentative essay with references to outside texts.
Audience and Style: Your audience is educated adults. Avoid slang, jargon, or overly informal writing.
