Performance objective
In this task, you need to demonstrate that you know some standards and legislation that relate to workplace sustainability. You will need to read and apply information from organisational policies and plans to ensure that workplace practices comply with standards and legislation.

This is a written test to assess your knowledge in these areas.
Procedure
1. Read the questions carefully and provide short, written answers in the space provided.
2. A copy of various environmental policies and procedures are provided in the appendices at the end of this test as a reference. Ask the assessor for help if any of the questions are unclear.

Question 1: Environmental and health and safety regulation
Laws and agreements are made at several levels of government. Some of them exist between countries, some exist inside countries, some relate to one state in the country only and some to local areas.
In the table below, write examples of different types of environmental regulation. Provide examples for at least four types of regulation. One example has been done for you:

Question 2: Complying with new policy
Brad is the general manager for a small family courier company that operates in Melbourne’s CBD and inner suburbs. A new environmental policy has been introduced at Brad’s workplace. He reads through the new policy and notices that there are a lot of things that can be changed to comply with the new policy.
Some facts about the way the company currently runs:
· They have one bicycle courier who works two days a week and delivers in the CBD.
· They have three small cars (Toyota Corolla) that deliver in the CBD and inner suburbs. They were purchased in 1998, 2002 and 2004.
· They have eight vans that deliver in the CBD and inner suburbs.
· They wash their vehicles every week to keep them looking clean to give the company a professional reputation.
· All water used for washing vehicles comes from the town water supply.
· Brad doesn’t know what kind of soap is used to wash the vehicles.
· All employees drive their personal cars to work each day.
· Their central offices are located in an inner suburb of Melbourne.

Question 3: An incident
At Mary’s place of work, large drums containing dangerous chemicals had been stored on a pallet in the new car park extension. After a few days of heavy rain, Mary realised that a stream of water was flowing over the new car park extension into the creek below. During the bad weather, one of the drums had fallen off the pallet and was now leaking into the stream of water.
