Assignment 1

The management of Target realizes that they need to modernize their ideas regarding global expansion of the company. In order to make the company more competitive they need more information about the details of the global market. For this assignment, your requirement is to develop a PowerPoint presentation where you describe, discuss, and analyze the aforementioned topics identified by the management.

Within the presentation you will include

1. Present the level of competitiveness in your selected country, include Land, Labor and Capital.

2. Discuss the main sectors of trade in your selected country. What trends are appearing and why?

3. Present and assess the trade and factor mobility in your selected country.

Length: 5-10 slides (The first slide in the presentation should be the title page. The last slide(s) in the presentation should be the list of references you used for the assignment in APA format. Do not count title/reference slides toward 5-10 requirement).

You are to have at least one chart, graph or table.

Notes Length: Have at a minimum 80-200 words for each slide – these notes should be in the Speaker Notes section of the PowerPoint slides.

Be sure to include citations for quotations and paraphrases with references in APA format and style. Assignment 2

Consider the global operations of the tech giant Apple and make use of the concepts from this week in regards to International trade, Government Influence and Trade, and Cross-National Cooperation and Agreements. Write a case study report to the corporate level executives of Apple located in the US, regarding government intervention, protectionist policies and international agreements into a country of your choice that are expected in the period 2017 to 2019. What actions should Apple take in regards to these issues (hint - these actions should be your solutions in your case). Do not use the same country you pick for this weeks assignment 2, pick a different country.

Content should be between 600 and 900 words with at least three references (the textbook should be one). Proper APA citations should be used throughout the case for information that is not your own. Focus the scope of your response to align with concepts from chapters 6, 7 and 8 from the textbook, as well as other outside research.

It is my expectation that you use the case methodology outlined in the Case Response Expectations folder in the Course Content. This methodology will help you to optimize your submission. YOU MUST have all 8 sections of a case:

Week 4 –- Chapter 9, 10 and 11

Use the text book and any other source, as long as you cite it. You must use live relevant data from this past week for the answers to 1, 2, 4. (Week of June 3 -10th)

1. What is the spot rate for the British pound (GBP) on Wednesday in terms of the U.S. dollar (USD)? Or, from the U.S. perspective, what is the direct quote on pounds?)

2. What is the spot price for the USD on Wednesday in terms of the Swiss franc (CHF)? (Or, from the U.S. perspective, what is the indirect rate on Swiss francs?)

3. Using your answers from #1 and #2 above, calculate the cross rate of exchange between the British pound (GBP) and the Swiss franc (CHF) (need to see your math).

4. Calculate the annualized forward premium or discount on six-month forward yen (need to see your math).

5. Based on your answer to #4 above, if you are planning to go to Japan in 6 months, should you buy your yen today? Why or why not?

6. According to the international Fisher Effect, if the real interest rate is 4%, if the US inflation rate is 5% and the Japanese inflation rate is 7%, then what is the nominal interest rate in the US? What is the nominal interest rate in Japan? Need to see math.

7. What is the expected difference between interest rates in the United States and Japan (do not need to see math, this can be answered in words and not numbers)

Write a report to the corporate level executives on how to implement a supply chain for AB In-Bev, who is setting up a foreign operation for a new product called BIER in Poland. Where should production take place and why? Provide your recommendations. Think about location, but also other ways supply chain can work, importing from US, importing from another country, creating factories within the country, etc. Be sure to explain the WHY behind your alternatives/solutions.

Based on practices and suggestions from texts that use cases, this documents seeks to provide a set of ideas to create case responses. Too often, people fail to provide the critical thinking and analysis anticipated from the cases.

For this assignment, your requirement is to research and write in APA format a Strategic Plan that describes, discusses, and analyzes the elements of how you are going to go global. Be sure to address the below topics:

Your recommended strategy for value creation

The value chain and how it will be managed

A description of core competencies (definition of what a core competency is and what are Target's)

A description of the Organizational Structure (definition of org. structure and what Target should implement)

A description of the Organizational Culture (definition of org. culture and what Target should implement)

Marketing and Pricing Strategies

Length: 8 or more pages. First page should be title page and last page should be a reference page, these can count towards your 8 pages.

In addition to the textbook material for this course (properly cited within the paper), you must also use at least five (5) peer reviewed journal articles or other textbook references. Websites and other non-peer reviewed references may be used (and properly cited in APA format), but these supplemental references are not counted toward the requirement of at least five peer reviewed journal or other textbook references. Your essay should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards.

Week 8

Learning Objectives:

· Summarize your views by making a recommendation on an international expansion and then present those recommendations. You will make a video presentation, a PowerPoint presentation and a written recommendation.

· Practice presentation skills

· Demonstrate a thorough and detailed understanding of main topics learned throughout the course

Assignment 1

Type out 4 to 5 minute presentation or include it in speaker notes on slides, just be sure it equals 4 to 5 minutes when speaking.

FINAL RECOMMENDATION

Make a final recommendation whether Target should proceed or not proceed with international expansion into your specific country. Support your decision with at least 3 to 5 major concepts from book.. A recommendation to not expand is just as acceptable as a recommendation to expand, as you will be evaluated on how you support your decision. Be sure to cover the following topics:

1 - Why or why isn't it a good time for Target to expand internationally?

2 - Base your recommendation on 3 to 5 main points we covered throughout the course.

3 - Incorporate concepts from the text book chapters to support your recommendations.

Create a Power Point presentation which follows your presentation. This should be a business professional presentation which presents your final recommendation to Target as to whether they should expand to your specific country or not and WHY?

You should have an intro slide as well as a references slide. It is recommended, but not required, that you use the speaker notes. This is the point of the speaker notes, to help aid you when presenting.

Assignment 2

You are to write a 1 to 3 page short and concise recommendation based on your presentation about what Target should do in regard to international expansion. It should parallel your presentation, and should not exceed the three page limit; points will be given for being succinct and to the point. Again present your recommendation to expand or to not expand and support it with 3 to 5 main points from topics we learned throughout the course.
