It is essential to have effective communication in healthcare. Patient safety, the quality of their care, and staff satisfaction depends on effective, timely communication. For your initial post, discus the advantages of:
• One communication technology that can enhance patient safety
• One communication technology that can enhance patient satisfaction
• One communication technology that can enhance staff satisfaction
For your reply, provide at least two disadvantages for at least one of the communications technologies discussed by your 2 of your peers. Include a detailed rationales supported by research. Provided a possible solution
These are the 2 post I would like for you to reply to:
Post 1:
Communication Technology that can enhance patient safety
A communication technology that can enhance patient safety is the electronic requisitions that are sent to laboratories for patient bloodwork testing. Not all doctors utilize electronic requisitions and I believe taking advantage of electronic requisitions being sent to the lab will reduce the mistakes or misinterpretations of doctors handwriting and specific tests. For example, a common test that is often misinterpreted is TSH and TSH w/ Reflex to FT4 (Miyakis et al., 2006). Sometimes doctors will forget add the reflex and will only have the patients TSH tested. Improper communication of laboratory testing for patients run the risk of the lab running the wrong tests and not being able to report abnormal or even critical values that put the patient at risk.
Communication Technology that can enhance patient satisfaction
One way that communication technology can improve patient satisfaction is following up with electronic health records (EHR) after the appointment with the provider is completed. In these patient summaries, patients are able to go back and review what the provider and them went over and what is be plan forward for the patient's overall health. These EHR can be e-mailed to the patient so that way, they do not have to worry about losing a paper and they have easy access to their appointment summary. In this EHR summary, the prescription can be listed, the diagnoses and a summary of subjective and objective signs/symptoms can be reviewed. A benefit of this electronic record is that the patient can have easy access to refer back to it as well as share with another provider if necessary therefore increasing patient satisfaction.
Communication Technology that can enhance Staff Satisfaction
A communication technology that can enhance staff satisfaction is the chance for administration to tell the staff that they are appreciated through the means of an electronic rewards program. If you see a staff member that is going above and beyond for their patients, you can submit for them to recognized through an electronic program where they can earn points and redeem rewards. Staff often feel under appreciated and this system would allow for staff to feel greater appreciated and therefore be more willing to go above and beyond again (Sabiroh, 2021).

Post 2: Patient Safety
One communication technology that enhances patient safety is sign-out or "hand-over" communication, which is the process of passing patient-specific information from one caregiver to another, from caregivers to patient and family, or from one team of caregivers to the next to ensure patient care continuity and safety (Alotaibi & Federico, 2017).
Patient Satisfaction
Patient portals boost patient satisfaction by allowing secure direct messaging with providers to securely communicate about patient care needs. This ultimately improves the patient experience by helping keep patients out of the clinic when possible and allowing patients to get answers to minor medical questions (Heath, 2019).
Staff Satisfaction
Wireless e-mail using a local GSM cellular network can improve staff satisfaction due to its ease of implementation as an optimized form of clinical communication. This system in contrast to other communication methods such as numeric paging, overhead paging, physical searches for staff, handwritten messages, and desktop-based e-mail eliminates the need for additional telecommunications infrastructure, while offering increased speed and reliability of communication, improved message content, and faster response times (O'Conner et al., 2009).
