DONOT answer this A and B. I am posting this for you to better understand the question or response below by my classmates.
A. After you carefully and thoroughly read the article and watch ALL the videos, please post your critical understanding and analysis of this news story/commentary and ALL the videos embedded throughout the article. In other words, what is your overall impression of this incident that just occurred in Yale University? Do you think this professor was bullied by the students, or students were simply trying to make their voice heard by the school authority? Do you like the way this article described and analyzed the issue, based on your understanding of this incident and the viewing of the videos? I want you to think about all these questions when writing the post.
B. Please note that this is a very controversial issue that has been debated by people and groups holding different opinions. Some people criticized the students' behaviors as "rude and abrasive," but some praised these students as they are "courageous young fighters" in the battle against racist cultural practice, such as wearing Halloween costumes that are offensive to certain cultural groups.
What is your opinion on this issue? How do you like the way the students interacted with professor Christakis in these videos? The reason that the students wanted to speak to the professor Christakis and professor Christakis tried to hold a conversation with them was because they wanted to develop a mutual understanding about each other's standpoints, right? But do you think there was a moment of constructive intercultural communication between them, or there was no such moment at all? If you think there was such a moment, please explain why, if you think there was no such moment at all, please also explain why. I want you to think about these questions too when writing the post.
BELOW IS THE ANALYSIS RESPONSE FROM ONE OF MY CLASSMATES ABOUT THE ABOVE ARTICLE AND I WANT THE RESPONSE TO THE FOLLOWING POST NOT THE ANALYSIS OF ABOVE ARTICLE. PLEASE AGREE OR DISAGREE WITH THE ANALYSIS BELOW AND GIVE YOUR OPINION BASED ON THE ISSUE FROM ARTICLE.
After reading the article and watching all the video, we can see that there was a misunderstanding of communication between the students and the professors who sent the email in which it made it worse when the professor decided to meet the students in the courtyard to speak about the issue. As seen in the videos, there is no mutual respect between both parties, especially towards the professor in which many students disrespect him and interrupted him when the professor wanted to speak. In the video, there is a serious conflict between the professor and the students, but the students did not handle well this conflict because of all the emotions that they had towards the professor. I understand and I love the way that students want their voice to be heard and not let anyone bring them down, but it should have been handled in a different way. Instead of the students surrounding the professor as if they were about to fight, they should of each sat down and communicate with each other and discussed what was wrong about sending that email and letting the professor give his explanation. By communicating with each other, they would of came up with an agreement and a compromise on what will be the best way to resolve this conflict. In the video the students wanted to obligate the professor to apologize but you cannot make someone apologize if they don’t feel like doing it, an apology should come from the heart in which the person understand what they did wrong . I believe that the professor was being bullied because some of them were cursing while others were confronting him as if they were about punch the professor.
The article did not describe and analyze the issue properly because it was biased. In the article it did not describe what was written in the email that the professor’s wife sent out and the incident was not described properly. Mostly everything that was in the article were the dialogues that the student had in the videos that were recorded.
In my opinion the issue should have been handle differently instead both parties decided to meet in the school courtyard and speak about the issue. The students did not take the best approach in order for their voices to be heard, all of the emotions each student had towards the professor made them look like if they were rude and it seem that they did not want to listen to anything the professor was saying to them. As well as the professor he should of waited until the day there were having a meeting in the auditorium to discuss the issue in which instead of him getting interrupted it would of made it easier to give his explanation of the conflict. In my opinion I did not like the way the students interacted with the professor because there was a lot of yelling, cursing, interruptions, and face threating from the students. Due to all of these interruptions instead of resolving the issue there was more misunderstanding and made the issue worse to resolve. I do not think there was any moment of constructive intercultural communication between them because at the end nothing was resolve
