  • Examine your current job position or a job position with which you are familiar. Then, choose three (3) significant factors that you believe have contributed to employees leaving the organization.


Prior to my last job I worked in a private medical office as a medical receptionist lead and saw many of my colleagues leave, including myself, for several of these reasons mentioned in this article.



  1. The feeling of not being appreciated

  2. Inadequate supervision and training

  3. Unequal or substandard wage structures



  • Next, suggest three (3) methods organizations could utilize to retain their employees. Support your rationale with two (2) examples of such factors/methods.



  1. Establish a Rewards/Recognition system

  2. Establish training programs

  3. Promote Feedback

  4. Reward programs should be implemented to reward performance and motivate employees as individuals and or at a team/group level. This system would include providing promotion opportunities, motivating with monetary incentives, bonuses, and salary increases, and magnifying an employee's recognition across multiple forums such as company social media, newsletters, and team meetings.

  5. Allowing excellent and constructive feedback will raise employee morale and positively encourage employee growth and higher performance. Employees will engage more with the company and will also feel comfortable in asking for, giving, and receiving feedback from the others, without feeling undervalued.



  • Based on the case study Retention: Deciding to Act (Pg. 735 – Pg. 737), determine whether the major complaints presented in the case study are the true reason for Wally’s Wonder Wash’s high turnover rate.


I can totally agree that the high turnover rate is due to the pay not being competitive, little to no training provided, growth within the company is limited, with no real manger- employee relationship and the feeling of not being appreciated by customers.



  • Then, suggest two (2) reasonable retention strategies that Wally’s Wonder Wash could implement. Justify your rationale. Note: Remember, turnover is not always about salary. Therefore, please present strategies that would not involve pay increases. 



  1. Establishing training programs will allow employees to interact in ways that engage people with diverse viewpoints and backgrounds at all levels, such as supervisors and or managers. Also, formal training in all kinds of leadership positions will encourage the right type of leadership behaviors and skills that will be needed for the success of the company and improve the supervisor-employee relationship.

  2. Employee recognition system: These programs will be set up to reward performance and motivate employees as individuals and or at a team/group level.
