They are particularly interested in stories which explain discourse creation in the inner-workings of under-discussed discourse communities that are unique, fascinating, influential, or worrisome. These could be interesting political or activist groups, fan groups, activity or gaming groups, identity-based groups, content-making groups, or other groups of people with unique interests, theories, or concerns. They might create discourse on a single platform or they might create it across multiple platforms. 

Your research should focus mostly on primary sources Links to an external site.(first-hand, direct accounts). Primary sources in this context are things written by the discourse community members for other members of the discourse community. While news articles or other secondary sourcesLinks to an external site. (second-hand, indirect accounts) written by people outside of the discourse community might be helpful for background research, they will be less useful than discourse created by the discourse community and shared within it. 

Specifications

• 800-1,000 words in a lively and personal, but mostly objective, style that fits the Vice digital "brand"


• 3-5 accompanying images that provide evidence and visual explanation of the discourse community in action, with captions and citations (e.g. posts, memes, screenshots, etc.)


• Citations in the form of links (a.k.a. hyperlinks, URLS) embedded in the body text


• Original and eye-catching headline with a sub-headline that explains the purpose or significance of the article


• A brief 1-2 sentence author biography
