As part of the enrollment appeal process for the Rasmussen University Graduate Studies programs, you will submit a personal statement in the form of a written essay. This essay will provide evidence of your ability to communicate in an effective and professional manner, including language, grammar, and expression of ideas. Attention will also be placed on formatting requirements.
The essay must provide a descriptive summary that includes the following three required elements:
1. The factors that attributed to the grade point average (GPA) you earned in your bachelor’s program and what will be different as you pursue your graduate degree.
2. How you plan to approach your graduate studies experience to ensure that you maintain a status of good academic standing.
3. Your short and long-term professional goals that motivate you to earn a graduate degree.
Structure:
• Title page with essay title, applicant’s name, graduate program applying to, and submission date.
• Include an introduction, body, and conclusion in your essay.
• Maximum of 750 words
Essay format:
• Double-spaced pages (8.5 x 11) with one-inch margins.
• Times New Roman 12-point font.
• Submit as a Microsoft Word document to your Admissions Advisor.
Your essay will be evaluated individually by a committee of:
• Department Dean or Program Director
• Department Chair or Faculty Member
• Dean of Graduate Education
