“Fish Cheeks” by Amy Tan. It is a story about a young fourteen-year-old Chinese girl her name is Amy, who has a crush on a minister's son. His name is Robert. When Amy finds out that her parents invites Robert and his family over for a Christmas dinner. She feels nervous about Robert coming over to her house and not liking it. Her fear comes true when Robert and his family come over. It seems right from the start that Robert doesn’t want to be there. When dinner comes around Amy starts to fell deeper in despair. The reason why is because her relatives ace very inappropriate at dinner. They lick their chopsticks and dip them into other plates. Another thing that makes her embarrassed is the food. It is not the typical American food for Christmas. They have Chinese food and it looks like Robert doesn’t like the food. When dinner is over Amy's Dad belch very loud, and in China that is considers as polite and shows that you are satisfied. After everyone leaves Amy's Mom tells her " You want to be the same as American girls on the outside". She gives her a skirt as an early present for Christmas. Amy, years later, finally understands what her Mom tries to tell her. Amy also realizes that the food that is on the Manu is her favorite food.
