Part 1
a. Discuss how your team would be leaving itself open to problems by moving ahead with no revised study formal proposal.
A research proposal plays an essential role in research because it gives the team members the power and permission to progress with the research. Failing to work with a research proposal means that the findings can be refuted (GSS Data Explorer, 2019). At the same time, this is a breach of ethical guidelines which exposes the research findings to dismissal.
b. Explain two problems you might encounter with this approach.
The first problem is the calling off of the research when it is in the middle. Upon knowing, the board has the authority to call off the research if there was no proposal (GSS Data Explorer, 2019). Lack of resources in the process of conducting research might lead to the complete shut-down of research because there is no way the team can go back and request for additional resources from a team that did not approve the current approach.
c. Then, provide a possible solution for each of the problems you have listed.
The first solution is to seek consent from the board through a proposal, and the second solution is to make sure that the budget is accurate or surplus. That way, it is difficult to run out of resources in the middle of the research.
Part 2
Describe what your topic is, phrasing it as a research question.
Have men contributed to gender inequality?
2. Identify variables (one DV, at least one IV) which you have found in the GSS dataset (see the attachment below).
The independent variable, in this case, is men, while the dependent variable is the contribution to gender inequality (GSS Data Explorer, 2019).
a. Identify variable names ;
On the GSS Survey, the variable is “fe12”.
b. Identify the question related to this variable that was asked in the survey (in verbatim).
GSS survey question for variable “fe12” is as follows: In the past 12 months, have you used the Web to find out about or discuss Gender/women’s issues?
3. Explain why you chose these variables for your project;
The variables are associated with issues that are affecting society, and therefore, it is essential to explore them.
4. Explain why you think there is a correlation or a relationship.
Considering that the independent variable is the one that is dominating society, it is likely to influence the dependent variable (GSS Data Explorer, 2019).
