CATALOG DESCRIPTION:
An introduction to the building professions, including architecture, construction, and interior design. Utilizes a wide range of media and technology to explore various topics related to the architecture/construction industry. Covers architectural history, building codes, sketching, geometric construction, floor plans, elevations, building sections, details, residential and commercial blue print reading, estimating, space planning, and sustainability. Prerequisites: None Co-requisites: None
MEASURABLE OBJECTIVES:
Major Core Course Objectives (* indicates critical thinking) Students that successfully complete this course will be able to: 1. Explain the Key parties involved in a construction project 2. Identify significant figures and buildings in architectural history * 3. Explain the history and use of building codes in the architecture/construction
industry 4. Communicate required course material with hand sketching techniques. 5. Create basic geometric drawings * 6. Identify various types of drawings that make up a typical set of residential

AutoCAD 2017 is available through the Autodesk website at: www.autodesk.com Students are able to download various software packages free through the Autodesk Education Community web site. GRADING PROCEDURE The final grade for this course will be determined by dividing the total actual points you receive by the total possible points for the semester. The following is an approximate list of total points. (45%) ASSIGNMENTS / EXERCISES / HOMEWORK - 600 points (34%) QUIZZES - 200 points (07%) ATTENDANCE - 100 points (3 points deducted for each absence) (1 to 3 points for being late) (07%) PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE (100, 90, 80, ETC.) - 100 points (07%) FINAL EXAM - 100 points
