FILM: HIDDEN FIGURES INSTRUCTIONS: The following instructions are intended to assist you in constructing your Film Case Study Final Report. I have formatted this document with hard page breaks so that you can compose your report in sections. I have also selected the font, font size, and paragraphing. So, there is no need for you to worry about formatting your report. The following is offered as further explanation of the form and substance of this document. This document has been constructed to provide both the substance and the format of your final Film Case Study Report. • • • • At the top of each page, you will find a series of questions guiding the analysis you are expected to perform. The questions, on pages 2 – 4, refer to each of the three levels of OB analysis that you are to conduct of the film. The questions at the top of page 5 require that you make a summary analysis stating your conclusions about the film based upon the three-level analysis. Finally, the questions on page 6 relate to your assessment of your team and how it performed on this assignment. HELPFUL TIPS: The following are some suggestions that may aid you in formulating your case study report. • • • • • Use my comments and feedback from your group presentations as a basis for some of your responses on pages two through four. Consult the PowerPoint slides that I have provided from our textbook to inform your responses. Be sure to use your spellchecker and your grammar checker before completing your assignment. Be sure to proofread your report several times before considering it completed. As a final check, recruit a trusted friend or other adult, who is not involved in the class, to do a final proofread of your writing. 1) THE INDIVIDUAL LEVEL: who are the main actors in the film (case)? • What theories, frameworks, or concepts can we use to better understand these characters? • How does the application of these organizational behavioral tools help us better understand their behaviors and motivations? • What can we surmise about these individuals? • How are their behaviors influencing the issues/outcomes of the organization? 2) THE GROUP/TEAM LEVEL: which of the individuals in the story comprise(s) the primary group(s)/team(s)? • • • • What dynamics do we observe in the behavior of the group or team? What theories, frameworks, or concepts can we use to better understand these group(s)/team(s) dynamics? How do these dynamics affect/determine the behavior of the group or team? What is the impact of these dynamics on the issues/outcomes of the organization? 3) THE ORGANIZATIONAL LEVEL: what is the nature, mission and culture of the organization featured in the film? • • • • What is the mission or goal of the organization (e.g., what business is the organization in)? How would you describe the larger environment in which the organization operates? What theories, frameworks, or concepts can we use (e.g., about organizational culture, strategy, change and/or structure, etc.) to better understand the organizational dynamics? In what ways do these dynamics influence the organization’s priorities, goals, and/or operations? 4) CONCLUSIONS: On the basis of your three-level analyses, what conclusions do you draw about this organization and its future. Which of the OB theories, frameworks, or concepts you discussed above, do you believe to be most important to your conclusions about this organization and why? 5) 6) ANALYZE YOUR TEAM: based on the materials we studied in chapters 7 through 10 of our textbook, how would you analyze the functioning of your team on this project? Please consider the following dimensions: a.) Make an Assessment of how well your team worked together. Was your team effective as described in our textbook?
