1 Assignment 2 Situation Analysis
Based on what you’ve learned so far in this course, regarding the 5 Cs, 4Ps, and STP, complete the assessment questions below. Submit the completed template in the Week 10 assignment submission link.
Course Title: MKT100 Date: 2 December 11, 2017 Company/Brand Selected (Jeep Cherokee Automobiles, Amazon, or Google):Amazon
1. 3 Customers Who are the current customers/users? Include information related to demographics, psychographics and buying behavior, price sensitivity, customer satisfaction and loyalty.
The organization selected is Amazon. 4 As stated by Schepp & Schepp (2009), the organizations clients encompass mostly of individuals who can access the internet and have payment tools such as debit card, PayPal, and credit card. 3 The company also targets consumers within the middle and upper class who have experience in basic technology but are reluctant to visit physical outlets for shopping. It is also important to note that Amazon’s prime program targets mostly to older shoppers compared to the young generation. This is because the company understands that older shoppers are much more likely to be loyal to the various products and services offered. Businesspersons, professionals, and individuals searching for good deal also form part of Amazon’s customers.
What do the customers buy/use?
Amazon offers a wide range of products and services. 5 For instance, customers can buy cloud-based products such as developer tools, databases, management tools, and enterprise applications. 3 Organizations that use these services are able to move faster and reduce technological costs. Other services that Amazon’s customers can buy include mobile applications, games, and books. It is also important to understand the company allows people to sell their products and services through its website which www.Amazon.com. With such a plan, it means that customers get to enjoy a range of products and services (Ignat & Maha, 2012).
What changes can the company/brand expect in the future? How can the company/brand better serve its customers? Include information about potential opportunities and threats.
According to Bhasin (2016), Amazon is working on plans to introduce new label products in the future. In fact, the company has initiated talks with branding consultants and manufacturers such as TreeHouse Foods. The company believes that it will succeed in bringing in new products as it seeks to fulfill the requirements of different groups of consumers. To serve its customers better, it will be necessary for the company to first identify the specific customer needs by seeking reviews from potential consumers. The company can then proceed and introduce the products. To overcome threats, such as the existence of similar businesses dealing with a similar brand, the company should ensure that the price set for new brands is affordable and reasonable.
2. 1 Company [This is what the brand is currently.] Identify strengths and weaknesses of the company/brand as it exists today. What does the company/brand do well and not so well at this very moment?
Amazon is among the top online bookstores. 3 It has that since become a top online retailer. 1 Despite the fact that the company experience stiff competition from other players in the industry, its ability to focus on the loyal customers has seen the company continue to improve in terms of performance. Amazon’s outstanding performance is also been attributed to its strengths that include cost leadership, efficient delivery network, and customer centric. 3 However, Amazon has a lot to do to address the current weaknesses such as tax avoidance issues, product flops, and shrinking margins (Schepp & Schepp, 2009).
1 [This is what the company/brand needs to become.] How can the company/brand improve its weaknesses and maintain or grow its strengths? Suggest how the company/brand can improve upon the things it does well and not so well.
3 To grow its strengths and address the weaknesses, the company should strive to look for ways of reducing operational costs to make sure that the profits realized do not keep declining. A good way to cut on operational costs is by reducing the number of employees such that only the most important ones remain in the company. 1 The company should also review the pricing of some of its products in an attempt to attract a large group of consumers especially those within the low and middle-income bracket.
3. 3 Context Define the current business environment. Include information about political, legal, economic technological and societal factors that may influence sales.
Looking at Amazon’s business environment, Ignat & Maha (2012) assert that the economic downturn in many countries is an economic factor that has reduced the overall purchasing power. Socially, some people may be reluctant to make online payments due to different reasons such as uncertainty, habit, and safety. Technologically, some people may be forced to believe that using technology, for instance when making online sales purchases, can make their private information accessible to unauthorized persons. 1 This is why some of them are against online transactions. 3 With the increasing cases of damage to the environment, some people are afraid that some of the products purchased online would have severe impact on the environment. Lastly, legal factors such as strict regulations when conducting online business has had a negative effect on Amazon’s sales because the company is not able to reach all customers.
4. 1 Collaborators Define the business partnerships. Does the company/brand have any current partnerships? What other company/brand may be a good partner for them?
To enhance the level of service delivery, Amazon does business with many partners. 6 They include Cloud reach, Corpinfo, Smartronix, and Softchoice. 3 With the help of these partners, the company has managed to extend value to its customers by managing their environment. In my opinion, the current partners are adequate and capable of helping the company to enhance its overall performance level.
5. 1 Competitors Who are the main competitors?
Amazon’s main competitors include eBay, Alibaba Express, Time Warner Cable, Netflix, and Google.
6. 1 Recommendations Based upon the analysis you just completed in this worksheet, what are three (3) key recommendations that you could pass along to Management regarding the future direction of the company you selected?
1. 3 Ensuring that all its products are environmentally friendly 2. Assuring customers of their privacy when making online purchases 3. 1 Set reasonable and affordable prices
