Name Comment by William Starkweather: In order for a header to appear correctly and automatically on every page, you must use Microsoft Word’s header tool. The running header must appear different on the title page, with the words “Running head:” (the word “head” not being capitalized) and colon before the title, which should appear in the running head exactly as it does in the title page, except in ALL CAPS. The words “Running head:” do not appear in the running header after the first page. To learn how to make an APA-formatted header, you might wish to view the “APA Title Page and Headers” tutorial: http://www.screencast.com/users/KUWC/playlists/Citation+Videos/media/9e54d84d-28bc-47bd-a2a7-1c5b0cbb1120 Please make sure you follow your professor’s directions, as he or she may wish you to use a different format.

Introduction Comment by William Starkweather: Before using headings and subheadings, make sure you actually need them. While they are helpful in long papers, headings and subheadings are rarely used in short papers. Unless your professor or assignment requires them, it is best to avoid them. If you are required to use headings and subheadings in APA style, you will want to follow the directions in this tutorial: https://kucampus.kaplan.edu/MyStudies/AcademicSupportCenter/WritingCenter/WritingReferenceLibrary/ResearchCitationAndPlagiarism/HeadingsinAPAStyle.aspx.
The American Association of Retired People is a strong group that is responsible for protecting the interest of the retirees in the United States by lobbying the politicians into passing legislation in the favor of the organization.
Abstract
The politicians get elected in part on the grounds of the problems by which they stand, and the problems are either weakened or held up by several interests group that are known. Interest groups aim at both the minor and major problems using their resources in sponsoring or overpowering the concern of groups. The interest groups do not give up until they achieve their goal, and they lobby Congress; try to influence the results of elections so as to benefit their cause (Susan & Georgia, 2011). Comment by William Starkweather: I see that you have one citation for some information in this paragraph, but there seems to be more information from an outside source in other sentences. It is always best to cite outside information in every sentence where that information appears. The APA Style Guide actually says you can combine sentences or use signal phrases to avoid what I like to call “citation fatigue,” where you just have the same citation at the end of sentences over and over again. Take a look at the link below, and pay special attention to the comment from Ashleyallen54. She responds to the exercise from the APA blogger by using signal phrases to break up the citation types: http://blog.apastyle.org/apastyle/2011/03/citing-paraphrased-work-in-apa-style.html Comment by William Starkweather: The primary use of the semicolon is to connect independent ideas or complete sentences without using a coordinating conjunction like “and” or “but.” If a semicolon is used correctly, an independent idea (an independent clause that could stand alone as a sentence) will appear on each side of the mark of punctuation. Is that the case here? To learn more, see our tutorial: https://kucampus.kaplan.edu/MyStudies/AcademicSupportCenter/WritingCenter/WritingReferenceLibrary/WritingMechanics/CommasAndsemicolons.aspx
American association of retired people (AARP) is one of those interest groups. Ethel Percy founded the group in the year 1958. The group has succeeded in recruiting members and achieving several of its objectives forming better benefits and defendants through legislation; that assist the retired individuals who are 50 years and above (Christine, 1990). By using advertising platforms like televisions media and radio, the group has proven to be a serious political interest group that cannot get ignored. The group has won through years, and it has over 30 million members and has four thousand chapters throughout the nation.
Unlike any other special groups AARP, it is a nonprofit group. Its ultimate policy objectives are economic security for the old people, comprehensive health care that is affordable for all and improvements in attitudes about the elderly in workplaces. It is the largest, successful and oldest group to date (Christine, 1990). The principal political interest of AARP is securing a positive legislative action by Congress for its people. The size and clout of the group make it the only interest organization that campaign for old people interest in America. Efforts get directed to five main fields of policy: social security, campaign finance reform, long-term health care, and tax reform. Comment by William Starkweather: The comma should go after “groups” instead of after the name of the group. There are some issues with your use of commas that can be addressed by this resource from our Writing Reference Library: https://kucampus.kaplan.edu/MyStudies/AcademicSupportCenter/WritingCenter/WritingReferenceLibrary/WritingMechanics/CommasAndsemicolons.aspx Comment by William Starkweather: Writers distinguish their own words and ideas from those of consulted resources. To show readers what has been borrowed, they provide in-text citations for any material that has been summarized, paraphrased, or quoted. The writer cites the source with both an in-text citation and an entry on the references page as explained in this tutorial: https://kucampus.kaplan.edu/MyStudies/AcademicSupportCenter/WritingCenter/WritingReferenceLibrary/ResearchCitationAndPlagiarism/BasicCitationGuidelines.aspx Otherwise, s/he might fall into the plagiarism trap, or the reader might not be able to keep straight whose ideas are whose. Is there a missing citation here? Are there others in your paper?
Due to growth of Medicare hoax, which costs the taxpayers a lot of money and drives the costs of health up, AARP lobbied a successful program that declared war on Medicare hoax. Presently, there are two Medicare bills in legislation which is at maintaining personal information of members secure and identifying false claims before they pay. The group has made other conventional choices such as protecting the status quo instead of advocating new social causes. It seems the AARP is concerned in keeping the groups fidelity instead of pursuing advocacy. The group is further limited to its advocacy by the huge diversity of viewpoints that it stands for
One of the main ways the AARP affects policy is by voter influences. This goes on in the form of election medium and distribution of voter guides. The AARP holds election discussion continuously to discuss and notify voters on candidate stand on problems that affect its members. Another tool that AARP uses to notify their members and the potential supporters is by distributing the pro-AARP propaganda. Distribution of journals and articles assists the group to add its influence on voters of America. There is a contract that contains AOL giving members a 10 percent discount that gets advertised via AOL software and gets distributed to people throughout America (Holmes, 2001). This practice enables the group to contact several voters and members than in other years all makes AARP influence the voters’ decision, which in turn affects the process of making policy in their favor.
Sponsoring the debates of politicians is another method used which helps the group to pass their message in the form of advertising at the time of the commercial break during the debate time. Most influence of AARP is passed through around 20 seconds advertisement spots, which sum to the beliefs of the organization. For the group to achieve its political objectives, it is important they are in a position of influencing people’s opinion. The main way the organization goes about this d through the production and airing of the main television programs that center on issues like social security and federal tax reform. Without media, the organization would have less influence on political decision-making (Samuelson, 2005). Comment by William Starkweather: Looks like a random letter here.
In the recent days, the organization has come under analysis of the America Senate, which is led by Senator Alan Simpson, who is a Republican from Wyoming. The senator questions the status of the AARP as a non-profit group benefited by a tax exception and unrestricted privileges of lobbying. Additionally, Senator Alan Simpson questions the nature of non-partisan of the organization by saying that the group compels a policy agenda on membership that are not willing.
Conclusion
The group acknowledges that even though it is hard to rally members made up of such a bug diversity of viewpoints, it will go in lobbying support for its people while sustaining a rank of political significance. Whichever the case, the group has reputable a proven track of over 53 years in being aggressive special interest organization that goes beyond to make sure benefits of its people get protected through legislation. Comment by William Starkweather: There is a pattern of error in the use of articles (a, an, the) in this paper. Some places in the paper use articles where one is not necessary. There are other places in some sentences where there is an article missing. In this case, the sentence should read “of over 53 years in being an aggressive…” To review articles as you revise the other errors with articles, please view this tutorial in the KUWC: https://kucampus.kaplan.edu/MyStudies/AcademicSupportCenter/WritingCenter/ELL/ArticlesAAnAndThe.aspx
