We only had to read one short story, ‘The Love of a Good Woman’, but it appealed to me and I wanted to read more of it. With the release of her new collection of stories in August 2009, the idea came to write a master dissertation on Munro’s use of gothic elements within her realist fiction. I would like to thank my supervisor, Prof. Dr. Hilde Staels, because she has provided assistance in numerous ways. Not only was she a great help with her immediate responses to questions, she also gave me a lot of inspiration during her course ‘The Contemporary Novel in English’, which was about that other famous Canadian writer, Margaret Atwood.
