Ten mediums that use the mass communication pattern
Mass communication is the exchange of information with a wide range of people. Radio is considered the most widely accessible medium of communication since most people can afford it. Diverse language stations also enable the people to be comfortable listening to news and songs in a language they can clearly understand, unlike newspapers that use national languages and illiterate people find it difficult to catch up with the country or city updates (Lifelineenergy.org, 2020). Books are reliable sources of information since they require a lot of time to write and publish to ensure that the information is authentic. Many libraries in schools and cities have accessible books where many people from the business world to other professions can access authentic information.
1) Television is a mass medium used in transmitting information in two or three dimensions and sound. Televisions are used to entertain, report news, sports, and advertising. TV is believed to be an authentic source of information since it has a particular authority, and the information must be created and produced by professionals (Costill, 2018). It is a tool that calls for actions in social emergencies, natural disasters, and other crises. Billboards are an effective medium for passing information to people within a certain area. It is more effective than other media such as radios and TV since billboards cannot be switched off. They are used in advertising and allow the advert to have full control over the advert. Moreover, it is a free source of information since people do not have to buy or subscribe to acquire the information(Bmediagroup.com, 2019).
2) Social networking involves using websites and applications such as Instagram, Facebook, Google+, and Twitter to create interaction between people with similar interests. Social networking is used for business and social purposes. Websites allow people from worldwide to interact with website owners to clarify the products and services advertised on the websites hence creating communities. Magazines are periodical publications that many people in the world read daily. Unlike a newspaper, magazines are more friendly to the reader since they contain short clips of a story and provides long-form writing. Many people reach out for magazines since they offer unique information that is not provided by other sources such as newspaper (fishercomm100.wordpress.com, 2010)
3) Newspaper is a powerful channel of mass communication that provides a wide range of information. They produce content like business news, sports, showbiz, and politics that many people globally need to hear every day. Newspapers are essential tools for public awareness and link the government to the citizens to promote better decision-making. Internet is a multidimensional channel of mass communication. Information produced by the internet can either one-to-one and many-to-many asynchronous, such as emails used to pass information in most organizations (Nation.com, 2018). Emails offer a platform where the sender can design one message that can reach many people within a short time.
4) Films are the creative expression of passing information to the public. They are popular for informing, educating, and entertaining people to promote social change in society. They are also used in influencing a large population to develop an interest in a particular product or service through advertisements. Films are proved to be most effective, especially in countries where literacy is low, and people cannot afford other media. Finally, photograph is a powerful tool of mass communication that records historic events, journalist researches, influences the mobilization of public opinion towards social reforms, and promotes fictitious reality (Giannakopoulos, 2019).
