The First King’s of Nursing April Marie Cannon R.N. Aspen University 11/27/2017 Abstract In this essay I will discuss King’s Conceptual System Theory. Explain the 3 systems and provide examples of each system. How the systems influence goal attainment. How could King’s theory help define a clinical quality problem? Apply this theory to a potential practice quality improvement initiative within your clinical practice. What are some committee’s that can align the outcomes using King’s Conceptual System Theory and what other nursing theory could improve quality of practice initiative? {First Kings Theory} King proposed a conceptual system for nursing around four concepts. Which are social systems, health, perception, and interpersonal relationships. These areas were identified by using inductive and deductive reasoning, critical thinking, and researching nursing literature. (King, 1971). Role, status, social organization, communication, information, and energy were identified as basic concepts of functions of systems. King expressed how important it was to advance your degree and knowledge and how important it was for nursing as a profession. The medical field is always changing and Technology is always changing. In the field of nursing your career you're always going to have to get a new certification. Regulations change all the time and the state board of nursing are you always need to have clinical certain clinical hours are certain standards to uphold. { Three Interacting Systems } The Theory of Goal Attainment was developed by Imogene King in the early 1960s. The model has three interacting systems: personal, interpersonal, and social. Each of these systems has its own set of concepts. The concepts for the personal system are perception, self, growth and development, body image, space, and time. The concepts for the interpersonal system are interaction, communication, transaction, role, and stress. The concepts for the social system are organization, authority, power, status, and decision-making. As a nurse we have certain goals for ourselves and our patients. Using King’s theory will challenge us to become better nurses. I King’s challenge us as nurses to continue education requirements and to challenge yourself in new ways by using the three systems. {Clinical Quality} King’s theory can help define a clinical quality problems by, Nurse has to know that communication is the key and trust between patient and nurse is most important. Clinical pathways serve that purpose, where nurses communicate to their patients care and outcomes/ goals with working with each other. Nurses need advocate for a common nursing language (nursing classification and terminology systems) that would unify nurses worldwide. Supported by nursing theory and technology, global communication would be enhanced for nurses and the interdisciplinary teams of which they are a part. Making healthcare profession’s have their own language if you will. Kind of how we as nurses have own nursing theories to learn to implement , experiment nursing research and how using nursing theories can help achieve great patient care cost effective great outcomes for our patients. Nurses face different challenges and changes in the recent years and will continue in the future. Many opportunities for nurses to take charge of coming changes to help design the future of healthcare. Growth and development as a nurse profession driven by technology advances healthcare will expand practice and that nurses to have a bigger roles and events practice rolls. The way the women's movement change the way our world has perceived nursing will become more holistic nursing to patient care.
