Week 3 | Part 3: Strategies to Promote Academic Integrity and Professional Ethics
I have analyzed the relationship between academic integrity and writing and the relationship between professional practices and scholarly ethics. I have also identified strategies I intend to pursue to maintain the integrity and ethics of my academic work while a student of the MSN program and my professional work as a nurse throughout my career. The results of these efforts are shared below.
Directions: In the space below, craft your analysis/writing sample, including Part 1 (The Connection Between Academic and Professional Integrity) and Part 2 (Strategies for Maintaining Integrity of Work).
Part 1: Writing Sample: The Connection Between Academic and Professional Integrity
In the space below, write a 2- 3-paragraph analysis that includes the following:
· Explanation for the relationship between academic integrity and writing
· Explanation for the relationship between professional practices and scholarly ethics
· Cite at least 2 resources that support your arguments, being sure to use proper APA formatting.
· Use Grammarly and SafeAssign to improve the product.
· Explain how Grammarly, Safe Assign, and paraphrasing contributes to academic integrity
Academic integrity and professional integrity go hand in hand. Students who have difficulties practicing academic integrity are more likely to experience difficulties practicing professional integrity. This paper explains the relationship between academic and professional integrity. It expounds on the options available to promote the integrity of work.[This is a helpful thesis statement!]
Section 1: The Connection Between Academic and Professional Integrity
Academic integrity is the honest and moral behavior demonstrated in an academic setting. It includes providing credit when using other people's ideas. Professional integrity is ethically practicing one's profession. Both academic and professional integrity emphasize upholding moral and ethical behavior. Academic integrity provides the foundation for professional integrity, especially nursing (Ellis, 2020). [As your reader, I felt like you started to make your point, but you didn’t finish by analyzing the Ellis (2020) paraphrase. Could you explain in a sentence or two why academic integrity is linked to professional integrity (using your own words)?]
Professional practice can be defined as a person’s work and conduct in their profession (Chadwick & Gallagher, 2016). [Cohesiveness: transition needed. Consider using a phrase such as a key aspect of professional practice in nursing is conducting evidence-based scholarly research in an ethical manner. ]Scholarly ethics refers to following the guidelines that advocate for intellectual honesty in writing. Plagiarism should be avoided by correctly citing the materials used as a reference in writing [Provide a reason here for your reader—although the reason may seem obvious to you, explaining why in writing helps to provide important links that make your writing more cohesive.]. Both professional practices and scholarly ethics promote honesty in the conduct of work. They stress the need for ethical practice. Therefore, professionals and scholars should act within the set ethical guidelines. Honesty builds trust and improves the effectiveness and efficiency of a system. Comment by Lauri L. Barnes:
[A transition would help here. Consider—To ensure that academic writing is credible, it is important that scholars use proper grammar. Online tools are available to help with the editing process. For example,…]Grammarly is an online platform that students and scholars can use to eliminate spelling mistakes, plagiarism, and improve grammar quality in their work (Cifuentes & Janney, 2016). The scholar or student should upload their work on the platform, and any errors in the work are automatically detected. It improves the quality of work by suggesting the correct grammar and spellingsspelling errors.
[Again, a transition would be helpful here—I suggest that you discuss the importance of avoiding plagiarism as a scholar practitioner and then address SafeAssign as a tool] SafeAssign in an online platform to check plagiarism. Plagiarism is considered using another person's work as their work. SafeAssign has an automated grammar checker that helps students and scholars correct any detected grammatical and spelling mistakes. Most institutions require students to submit their work through SafeAssign (Cifuentes & Janney, 2016). This enables them to correct any issues related to grammar and plagiarism.[you might consider moving the paragraph below up to make this all one paragraph as you seem to be writing on the same subject. This might create a better flow for your paper]
Paraphrasing is used to reduce plagiarism. It is restating a statement using different words. Grammarly, SafeAssign, and Paraphrasing have been adopted by students and scholars to improve their work quality. Comment by Lauri L. Barnes: Comment by Lauri L. Barnes:

PART 2: Strategies for Maintaining Integrity of Work
Expand on your thoughts from Part 1 by:
· Identifying and describing strategies you intend to pursue to maintain integrity and ethics of your 1) academic work while a student of the MSN program and 2) professional work as a nurse throughout your career. Include a review of resources and approaches you propose to use as a student and a professional.
Section 2: Strategies for Maintaining Integrity of Work
As a nursing student at Walden University, I plan to use some strategies to maintain integrity and ethics. I will use Grammarly before submitting my assignments. The online platform will help me correct any grammatical or spelling errors in my work. I will also use SafeAssign to ensure I submit plagiarism free work. In case I have any problems with plagiarism, I will submit my work to the writing Writing center Center (Ellis, 2020). The writing center will help me identify where my wording or formatting has been mistaken for plagiarism. It will suggest the best formatting and citing to reduce plagiarism. Lastly, I will use the assignment rubric to ensure that my work is [an adjective here might help your sentence read more smoothly—consider “high” or “good”] quality and fulfills all the requirements. As a professional, I will ensure the integrity of my work by being accountable. Accountability includes being accountable for my actions at work and being responsible. Accountability is a virtue that nurses can use to improve patient care. I will also ensure that I document everything. In the medical field, documentation is paramount (Chadwick & Gallagher, 2016). All the relevant information about a patient is available through documentation, and it enables making informed decisions. As a professional, I will create a conducive environment with my patients. This environment will create an atmosphere for open communication, thus improving patient care and service delivery (Lockhart, 2017). Comment by Lauri L. Barnes:

You started you paper well with a thesis statement that oriented your reader to the topics you would cover. Well done! As an outside reader, I see that you have addressed the questions posed, but I cannot say how your professor would evaluate you, of course. I can see some opportunities to improve the tone and flow/connections in the paper, so I made some suggestions related to word choice and transition use. I also suggested where you might add some sentences related to analysis or summary or where you might combine paragraphs. I think you have the basics here, and with a little revision and polish, you will be on your way! Nice work on your APA citations! Add your hanging indentation and watch for the sentence case needed for the Cifuentes article, but other than that, you did a fantastic job.
