Music:

Covers – Same song, different artist. May have single small word changes in lyrics.

Samples – Taking the beat or chorus of a song and using it for an entirely different song.

Mash-ups – Combining two or more songs together to create a new song. Typically done by DJs

Stories:

Medium Adaptation – Taking a story in one format and transferring it to a different format (ex: book to movie, foreign film to American film, movie to tv show)

Creative Adaptation – Taking an original story and changing it and making it creatively unique (ex: Hamlet vs Lion King; Pride & Prejudice vs Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies; The Odyssey vs O’ Brother Where Art Thou)

Historical Adaptation – Taking a historical event or figure and revising history for creative reasons (The Battle of Thermopylae vs 300; Pocahontas the historical figure vs Pocahontas the Disney princess; Abraham Lincoln the president vs Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer)

Parody – Taking an original text and making it humorous (ex: Weird Al music, Star Wars vs Spaceballs, Scream vs Scary Movie)
