INDEPENDENT PROJECT 8-4 For this project, you customize a draft of a report for Sierra Pacific Community College District. You apply desktop publishing features, apply and customize a theme, insert and customize text boxes, insert and customize a SmartArt graphic and a chart, mark index entries, and create an index page.

Step 1 Download start file

1. Open the OnlineLearning-08 start file. If the document opens in Protected View, click the Enable Editing button in the Message Bar at the top of the document so you can modify it.

2. The file will be renamed automatically to include your name. Change the file name if directed to do so by your instructor, and save it.

3. Adjust margins and gutter. a. Change the top, left, and right margins to 0.75". b. Change the gutter to 0.25 " and the gutter position to Left.

4. Apply and customize a theme. a. Apply the Retrospect theme. b. Change the theme Colors to Grayscale and the theme Fonts to Office. c. Save the current theme as SPCCD 2.

5. Apply a Dropped drop cap to the first letter in the paragraph below the “PURPOSE OF THIS PLAN” heading and modify it to drop 2 lines.

6. Create and apply a custom text watermark. a. Insert a custom text watermark and type OL Draft as the watermark text. b. Change the size to 120 pt. and change the layout to Diagonal.

7. Insert and customize a SmartArt graphic. a. Place your insertion point at the end of the paragraph in the “PURPOSE OF THIS PLAN”

section. b. Insert the Horizontal Bullet List SmartArt graphic. c. Type the information shown in Figure 8-103 in the SmartArt graphic.

Chart in Microsoft Word worksheet to replace the sample chart data.

d. Adjust the chart data range as needed and close the Chart in Microsoft Word worksheet.

e. Type SPCCD Course Offerings as the chart title. f. Apply data labels to the Outside End of the

columns. g. Apply the Style 11 chart style. h. Format the vertical axis and change the

number format to Number with 0 decimal places and a 1000 separator.

i. Select the Chart Area and apply the Subtle Effect – Light Gray, Accent 1 shape style.

paste (Ctrl+V) it in the text box to replace the placeholder text. c. Select the text box and apply the Subtle Effect – Black, Dark 1 shape style. d. Change the height of the text box to 1.25" and the width to 3.4". e. Set the Position [Drawing Tools Format tab, Arrange group] as Position in Bottom Right with

Square Text Wrapping. f. Place your insertion point at the top of the third page and insert the Austin Quote built-in

text box. g. Copy the first and second sentences in the first paragraph in the “Tech Support Services”

section and paste it in the text box to replace the placeholder text. h. Select the text box and apply the Subtle Effect – Black, Dark 1 shape style. i. Change the height of the text box to 1.6" and the width to 2.3". j. Set the Position as Position in Middle Right with Square Text Wrapping.

10. Insert page breaks before the “Program Selection” and “Student Support Services” headings.

format and click Mark (not Mark All). b. Select each of the types of online courses in the “ONLINE LEARNING MODES” section and

mark each as Subentry. Type Online Learning Modes as the Main entry and the online course type as the Subentry. Do not use bold page number format.

c. Select each of the subheadings in the “PLANNING PROCESS” section and mark as Subentry. Type Planning Process as the Main entry and the subheading as the Subentry. Do not use bold page number format.

d. Select each of the subheadings in the “SPCCD ONLINE LEARNING” section and mark as Subentry. Type SPCCD Online Learning as the Main entry and the subheading as the Subentry. Do not use bold page number format.

e. Select the chart and create an index entry. Type SPCCD Online Learning as the Main entry and Course Offerings Chart as the Subentry. Do not use bold page number format.

12. Create and update an index page. a. Place the insertion point at the end of the document and insert a page break. b. Type Index, apply the Heading 1 style, and then press Enter. c. Insert an index and use Simple format, right align page numbers, use a dot leader, and use

1 column. d. Turn off Show/Hide and update the index.

13. Save and close the document (Figure 8-105).

14. Upload and save your project file.

15. Submit your project.
