Assignment Brief and Guidance:
Scenario:
Evidence has shown that maintaining equality and diversity in organizations brings many benefits including improved productivity; increased market share; more innovation problem-solving; a better reputation with staff, suppliers and customers; better work environment for staff; and reduced risk of damaging discrimination cases (Angel and Tahir, 2016)[footnoteRef:1]. Equality ensures that everybody has the same access to the same opportunities without any discrimination. Diversity considers differences between people and groups of people, by placing a positive value on those differences. [1: Angel Sharma | Tahir Nisar (Reviewing Editor) (2016) Managing diversity and equality in the workplace, Cogent Business & Management, 3:1, DOI: 10.1080/23311975.2016.1212682 ]
A diverse and inclusive workplace values people’s different backgrounds, knowledge, skills, and experiences, and uses these differences to create a productive and effective workforce. Managing both equality and diversity is equally important as it impacts all the employees working in an organisation. Business cases have proven that biases and discrimination within the workplace can impede business growth and productivity and therefore, many businesses look beyond any legal considerations and policies to effectively promote equality and diversity to improve productivity, opportunity, and competitiveness (Moore, 1999)[footnoteRef:2]. [2: Moore, S. (1999). Understanding and managing diversity among groups at work: Key issues for organisational training and development. Journal of European Industrial Training, 23, 208–218. DOI: 10.1108/03090599910272086 ]
Nowadays, many organizations in Oman have started to integrate equality and diversity in their overall human resources (HR) policy and to disseminate that to all staff by way of inductions and team presentations. Equality and diversity policy is integrated into day-to-day customer care and workplace practices including marketing, communications, staff welfare and recruitment. Some of the practical steps taken included reviewing publicity information to ensure that illustrations on handbooks and websites were representative of diversity and that the content communicated clearly complies with companies equality and dignity at work policies and procedures. Some companies organized cultural food days and celebrated staff’s national days. Equality issues are kept on the agenda through the staff newsletter. Others have equality policy on public display and produced an abbreviated form of its full equality policy for day-to-day use.
Assume you are working as an HR manager in an organization in Oman, which during the past five years had significant growth in terms of sales and workforce. Over this period, the workforce has become very diverse, including more than 75 employees, which necessitates to have a clear policy related to equality and diversity in the organization. The CEO of your organization intends to make policy level changes in the organization with the aim of embedding equality and diversity into the corporate culture to enhance the overall
performance of the organization. The CEO requested you to initiate the project, and submit a business case report coupled with a presentation for the main findings.
By using the above scenario, prepare a PowerPoint presentation. The presentation should critically evaluate and reflect on the project outcomes, the decision-making process and changes or developments of the initial project management plan to support justification of recommendations and learning during the Project. To facilitate preparation of the presentation of your business case, you are required to review the “learning and grading criterion table” on page 4.
You are required to reflect on the success of the project and performance in a personal performance review at the end of the project. This written reflection should be around 500 words. A template of the personal performance review is attached as appendix.
NOTE
· Please do not forget to attach the personal performance review with the slides
