After reading “A&P” by John Updike and “The Lesson”. Toni Cade Bambara,” a student, Anthony Otero, made the following observation:
“The famous quotation: “Pride (arrogance) comes before Destruction... and a haughty spirit, before a fall.” apply perfectly to Sammy in “A & P” and Sylvia, in “The Lesson.”
Based on your reading of the two texts, do you agree with Otero? You may fully agree, partially agree, or fully disagree. However, you must provide strong evidence from the texts to support whatever position you take.
Do not use outside sources! Do not use any text apart from the ones I have assigned.
