Performance Appraisal
Performance appraisal is that method that many companies use to monitor, workers performance and it's being documented and evaluated. In the movie Gung Ho, the performance appraisal is based on the number of the cars, the workers make per month, Assan motors being the name of the factory that the Japanese have taken over from Americans in a small town called Pennsylvania (Daneshkohan et al, 2015).. To give a little brief about how the Japanese ended up in U.S. the factories in Pennsylvania were all shut down, and people were not on any pay slip which was a gradual development on poverty or even downfall of the town. Michael Keaton, being one of the former foremen in a certain company, travels to Tokyo, to request if they can reopen the automobile plant. He did this to save the town. His proposal was accepted, and Japanese moved to the U.S. Comment by Mike Olson: “a method” Comment by Mike Olson: Avoid using contractions Comment by Mike Olson: Japanese what? Should clarify who they are, businessmen, executives, etc. Comment by Mike Olson: Like above, clarify who this is
When the Japanese arrived in the U.S, they took advantage of the jobless situation in Pennsylvania, which they started imposing some difficult duties on the workers. The worker appraisal was brought by Gede Wannabes and Keaton, who was working as a mediator between Japanese and workers. Keaton told wannabe, that when 15000 cars are made per month then his people will receive salary increment and jobless workers would be employed. The failure to achieve this goal even with one car, then nothing will happen (Daneshkohan et al, 2015). Comment by Mike Olson: Capitalize this Comment by Mike Olson: Get rid of the comma Comment by Mike Olson: “15,000” Comment by Mike Olson: “If they fail to…”
Kaeton assembles the workers about this, and the workers complained a lot of work under short period which will subject them to work under pressure. Kaeton was forced to lie of at least 13000 a slight move will be given, which never happen and the worker went to go-slows. The Gung Ho performance appraisal was like a dictatorship or taking advantage of the people of Pennsylvania. This topic was well addressed in this movie because it was all about workplace and factory where performance appraisal is applied. Comment by Mike Olson: “13,000” Comment by Mike Olson: “never happens” Comment by Mike Olson: Would flow better if you eliminate this part Comment by Mike Olson: Needs a bit more discussion than this
