Independent Project 2-5 Prospective home buyers need to understand mortgage requirements and how to prepare to apply for a mortgage. Angie O’Connor at Placer Hills Real Estate frequently discusses these issues with clients, so she wants to use a presentation on her notebook computer to help guide her discussions with clients. For this project, you develop the presentation.

When you are finished with this project, your presentation should contain 6 slides. If it does not, your project
will not grade properly and you may lose a significant number of points.
1. Open the presentation PreparetoBuy-02 start file, which has a Standard size (4:3 aspect ratio). The
slide size is 10" x 7.5" compared to the slide size of 13.333" x 7.5" for the Widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio).
NOTE: If the document opens in Protected View, click the Enable Editing button in the Message Bar at
the top of the document so you can modify it.
2. The file will be renamed automatically to
include your name. Change the project file
name if directed to do so by your instructor,
and save it.
3. On slide 1, search at Office.com for the
picture shown in Figure 2-126 using the search
word home. If you cannot locate this
picture, insert a picture of your choice.
a. Insert the picture and crop it slightly on
the left to remove part of the sky.
b. Resize the picture so it is 3" wide and the
height remains in proportion.
c. Apply the Moderate Frame, Black picture
style.
d. Align the picture on the right side of the
slide. The black frame portion extends
beyond the slide on the right.

4. On slide 4, insert a chart showing how fixed mortgage rates
have changed over time. a. Click the Line chart type; then select the Line with Markers
chart layout. Click OK.
b. Replace the spreadsheet data with the data shown in
Figure 2-127.
• Increase the selection area to include row 10 to avoid
error messages.
• Delete Column D so the corresponding chart area is
correct with no blank space.
• Close the spreadsheet.
5. The chart now shows accurate information, but it is difficult to
distinguish the data series lines from the
gridlines in the background. The data markers that
reflect the value of each number can barely be seen
(Figure 2-128). The following changes will
make the
chart easier to interpret.
6. Delete the chart title.
7. Change the chart area Shape Fill to Blue-
Gray, Accent 5, Darker 25%.
8. Select the “Rate” series line, right-click, and
select Format Data Series to open the Format
Data Series pane (Figure 2-129).
a. Click the Fill & Line tab at the top of the
pane. Select Line options and make one
change: Width: 3 pt.
b. Select Marker options and make changes
so the marker on the selected series line is
more noticeable. Click the option name
to access the choices for each option.
• Marker Options: Built-in, Type
Square, Size 15 (Figure 2-130)
• Fill: Solid fill, Color Dark Red,
Accent 1, Lighter 40%
9. Select the “Points” series line and make the
following similar changes:
a. For Line options, make two changes:
• Line Color: Solid line, Brown,
Accent 3
• Line Style: Width, 3 pt
b. Click the Marker button and make two
changes:
• Marker Options: Built-in Type
Diamond, Size 20
• Marker Fill: Solid fill. Brown, Accent
3, Lighter 40%
10. Close the Format Data Series pane.

11. Increase the font size to 16 pts. and make the text bold for the Horizontal (Category) axis and the
Vertical (Value) axis.
12. Move the chart area up slightly to make room for a source notation at the bottom of the slide.
a. Insert a text box and type the following, on two lines (press Enter between lines):

b. Position the text box as displayed in Figure 2-131.
13. On slide 5, insert a table with 5 columns and 3 rows. Make the following changes:
a. Type the text shown in Figure 2-132.

b. Select columns 2–5 and change to Center alignment.
c. In the first row, change to Bottom alignment and change the row Shading to Dark Red, Accent 1.
d. Align the table in the horizontal and vertical center on the slide.

14. Insert a text box above the table. a. Type $250,000
b. Change the font to 40 pts. and bold.
15. Insert a text box below the table. a. Type the following text on three lines (press Enter between lines):
Lender rates are influenced by credit scores.
Plan for a 20% down payment to avoid cost of points.
Add taxes and insurance premiums.
b. Position the text boxes as shown in Figure 2-132.
16. On slide 6, convert the list to a SmartArt graphic.
a. Select the bulleted text and convert it to the
Vertical Curved List SmartArt layout.
b. Resize the SmartArt frame on the right so it fits
the longest line of text.
17. Make the following changes to the SmartArt graphic:
a. Change the colors to Colorful Range,
Accent 4 to 5. b. Apply the Moderate Effect SmartArt style.
c. Select all of the white circles and change the
Shape Fill to Dark Red, Accent 1 and apply the
Bevel effect of Cool Slant.
d. Center the SmartArt graphic on the slide
(Figure 2-133).
18. Apply the Shape transition with the
Out effect option to all slides.
19. Save and close the presentation
(Figure 2-134).
20. Upload and save your project file.
