Vapor Pressure and Boiling Point Liquids have a vapor above them with which they are constantly exchanging particles. The stronger the intermolecular forces between the particles in a liquid the harder it is for particles to escape the surface and the lower its vapor pressure. The larger the molecular dipole on a species the stronger the intermolecular forces. The vapor pressure of any liquid increases with temperature. A liquid boils when its vapor pressure equals atmospheric pressure. A liquid with high intermolecular forces has a lower vapor pressure (at a given temperature) then a species with low intermolecular forces.
