ESSAY #1 PROMPT
Write a comparative argumentative critical analysis that responds to one of the following in a 1,000-1,200 word essay:
· The relevance of notion(s) presented in Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave” regarding concepts, ideas, and notions explored in Nikolai Gogol’s “The Overcoat” and Jhumpa Lahiri’s The Namesake.
· Intertextuality between any of the artistic paintings we have explored in class, and Nikolai Gogol’s “The Overcoat” and Jhumpa Lahiri’s The Namesake. “Artistic paintings we have explored in class” include, and are limited to, Winslow Homer’s The Veteran in a New Field and Edward Hopper’s Room in New York.
· The use of cultural product as a means of shaping identity in Nikolai Gogol’s “The Overcoat” and Jhumpa Lahiri’s The Namesake.
