Proposing, Evaluating, and Selecting an Innovation
Summary of Innovative Ideas and Models
Innovation #1 “GenY Xploit” By Ken Wiechert
The latest marketing model for the gaming industry consists of two competitors, Microsoft Xbox One X and the Sony PS4. Introducing a new gaming console called GenY Xploit into the market arena will give gamers a whole new jolt of gaming experience. The evaluation model that is considered for this idea is the NOMMAR model (Miller Competition series, n.d.). This model evaluates the customer needs, technology options, potential market, business model, realistic approach and the relevancy.
NOMMAR model is used for early development with ongoing ideas and/or inventions which would be a good criterion for this innovation. The need for the new GenY Xploit gaming console will satisfy the high demand for cross-platform gaming competition. GenY Xploit will introduce a unique design of software compatibility that will allow gamers to perform cross-platform gaming to compete with other’s online no matter what gaming console they are using.
The technology options are in the hardware capabilities that are equal to the Xbox One X and PS4, duplicating the 4K resolutions and push games at sixty frames per second, GenY Xploit will boost larger capacity for resolution with higher Ram and more processing power. The gaming console will also use USB software capabilities to enable gaming accessories, for instance, the HP’s sequencer optical keyboard, the new reactor mouse and the upcoming Mindframe headset, (MAH UNG, 2018), this will enable the most advanced technology and power you need to gain respect from other gamers that simply cannot compete.
The potential market will target the demographics of both men and women of ages 18 to 34. According to MaGee (2019), it is “imperative that you tailor your marketing and sales efforts to specifically reach the segment of the population that will most likely buy your product or service” (par. 3). It is the most popular segment that will most likely buy the product. The business model is designed to outperform the technology platform separating the gaming world from the rest of the competition.
A realistic approach is making sure that the customer is satisfied with the gaming console, having a customer support system available 24/7 and no-cost return policy with a full money back guarantee. Relevancy is about staying consistent with the customer. In order to keep ahead of the competition and succeed in the gaming world, it is critical to stay in-tune with the customer’s needs and wants.
Innovation #2 “The VR Coil Cleaning-Machine” By Robert Varela
Introducing the VR Coil Cleaning-Machine a simplistic low maintenance environmentally friendly machine made in America designed to clean air-cooled chillers. The NOMMAR model is used to evaluate the idea. The model is a simple model that takes the customers’ needs versus their wants, addresses the technology options, the potential market for the idea, the business model to be used, the realistic approach of the idea and finally how relevant the idea will be (Terwilliger, 2011).
The need for the VR Coil Cleaning-Machine is that for over the past decade some businesses have seen both decreasing maintenance budgets and maintenance staffing across the country in federal, state, city and industrial organizations (Penny, 2018). Technology options there are several companies that can provide HVAC maintenance services, but it takes manpower to perform this maintenance. The potential market for the VR Coil Cleaning-Machine is geographically targeted for all federal, state, city and industrial industries that have been affected by shrinking budgets and cuts to maintenance staffing across the country.
The business model can improve the efficiency rating of a mechanical system up to a 15 percent which results in an energy savings for any organization (Grassl, 2013). A realistic approach is the unit’s ability to save customers money with limited manpower as well as heavy advertisement in these markets will be the main approach to this potential customer base. Its relevancy is that the VR Coil Cleaning-Machine is the solution to ever-shrinking maintenance budgets organizations face, along with less downtime and repairs for these organizations who have these costly air-cooled HVAC systems because of deferred maintenance.
Innovation #3 “Intelligent Transportation System” By Lakisha Trammel
The Intelligent Transportation System is being innovated by Company X, a startup business that wants to operate in the transportation and traffic industry as a smart service. Currently, people are technology-oriented; the company is not associated with any form of existing products or business. Company X is working on a new innovative service called the Lean Startup Plan. The Company has a total number of 6 employees which represents the group members and is privately owned and funded.
Intelligent Traffic Systems is a strategy that is used to describe a range of communication and information technologies which is used to improve the safety and performance of traffic systems. Traffic systems are situated in both sea, land and air traffic. The plan specifically targets land traffic which comprises of motorcycles, cars, trucks, trains and vehicles (Menouar et al., 2017). Intelligent traffic systems are a term used to describe a range of information and communication technologies that are used to improve the safety and performance of different systems.
The smart services are used to improve the total effectiveness of traffic by connecting and improving the parts of the whole. Intelligent traffic systems are used to improve response time to traffic accidents, minimizing time used for in searching for a parking space and creation of parking spaces that are able to communicate their status. The technology can also provide a real-time location to aware the traveler of weather conditions in their places of destination.
To evaluate this innovation, the NOMMAR method will be used. With the method, we can use a realistic approach and different technology options. With the measure of innovation on the planet today, there is no restrictions on what we can do to a vehicle as far as security and making things straightforward for individuals. With this technology, there will always be more time for extracurricular activities, spending time with family and having fun, rather than wasting precious time sitting in your vehicle because of traffic jams.
Innovation #4 “New Renewable Energy Source” By Venessa Long
The innovation idea of the New Reliable Energy Source has to do with the various changes within an organization regarding mandated pressure regarding Indian Water Rights. Assessing a new innovative renewable energy source can be developed to conserve more energy and reduce the use of water in and around the surrounding parameters of the reservation. If tribes move around the indecisiveness of federal common laws then encompassing a renewable energy source can be conceivable.
The model chosen to utilize this idea is the NOMMAR model. The need for renewable energy is essential for the reservation in the future. With the go green fad as well as the cultural values surrounding natural resources this is a necessity more than it is a want. Even though there is a high need for renewable energy sources the options are very limited for the organization. This would have to be something completely new to the organization. However, the organization does have the necessary resources for this project but may be high risk.
There is definitely a major target market for the new renewable energy source. The organization is geographically located in a remote area. There are only two main energy providers one of which is utilized by the organization itself. With the project in line with the organizational image this new innovation can open up the doors to a new market that will generate revenue from the surrounding areas back into the local economy. However, this approach is a new exploratory event for the organization and since there are various models to consider, further research is necessary and it will need to be carefully executed. The relevancy maybe be to underscore the fundamentals, engaging dialogs, identify unidentified political barriers and addressing the misconceptions.
Identification of the Selected Idea and Model
Team B had evaluated each individual innovative idea that had its own unique merit of substantial information primarily using the NOMMAR modal. This model evaluates the customer needs - would someone want it, technology options - meeting the needs, potential market - target audience, business model - seeing this being big, realistic approach -can this be accomplished and the relevancy - fitting for the market (Miller Competition Series, n.d.). This modal solidified the team to unanimously identify the GenY Xploit gaming console as being the selected idea innovation for the CLC assignment. The following quotes are from a couple of our teammates. The following results of the evaluation will serve as a justification for why the team selected the GenY Xploit:
For Ken’s evaluation, I used the NOMMAR model which I think works well for his gaming solution. I think he did a great job explaining (The Need) for a new gaming system, the (Technology Options) in which the competitors will be PS4 and the X Box One X, (The Potential Market) which is gamers worldwide, (Business Model) the model works because it has already been proven by the competitors, (Realistic Approach) can answer the three R’s resources, risk, resistance and finally (Relevant) yes his idea for a gaming system can be relevant by fitting the strategy as well as image for this market. (Varela, 2019, p. 2)
Like Robert, all the ideas are good, but I am going for gaming. I do not know much about it. But I have a son that knows software and gaming. And I feel that the "MEN" will help me out where I am following short at. (Trammel, 2019)
The only preliminarily forecast for a potential barrier that could impede the development of the GenY Xploit is if Sony and Microsoft cannot reach an agreement with GenY Xploit to enable gamers to perform cross-platform gaming on their gaming console.
Project Plan
The roles and tasks related to this project set up area unit essential to its completion. Team B can take our evaluated plan and implement the project set up method. It’s through project designing that Team B can summarize and assign the roles and tasks as follows:
