Part 1:

You are admitting a 19-year old female college student to the hospital for fevers.  Using the patient information provided, 

1. choose a culture unfamiliar to you and describe what would be important to remember while you interview this patient. 

2. Discuss the health care support systems available in your community for someone of this culture. 

3. If no support systems are available in your community, identify a national resource.

Part 2:

For the middle-aged adult, exercise can reduce the risk of various health problems.

1. Choose two at-risk health issues that regular physical exercise and activity can help prevent and manage. 

2. Discuss the prevalence of each of these health problems in society today. 

3. Describe measures that you would take as a nurse to assist clients with health promotion measures to incorporate exercise and physical activity into their lives.

4. Include the kind of activities you would recommend, the amount of exercise, and the approach you would use to gain cooperation from the client. Support your response with evidence-based literature.

Herbal supplements are products made from plants for use in the treatment and management of certain diseases and medical conditions. Many prescription drugs and over-the-counter medicines are also made from plant derivatives. These products contain only purified ingredients and, unlike herbal supplements, are closely regulated by the FDA. Herbal supplements may contain entire plants or plant parts. Herbal supplements come in all forms: dried, chopped, powdered, capsule, or liquid, and can be used in various ways. Please address the followings:

1.     Discuss advantages and disadvantages of dietary supplements, including adverse reactions, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, and specific laboratory issues that may arise from using these products.

2.     Discuss the position of the FDA and other governmental agencies on over the counter herbal supplements.

Family nurse practitioners (FNPs) are graduate-educated, nationally-certified and state licensed advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) who care for medically stable patients across the lifespan, from infants to geriatric patients.
