Concept Analysis Paper and Rubric for Grading Purpose: Identify a concept of interest to you in your nursing practice and write a paper to describe and discuss the concept. This paper will challenge you to deepen your critical thinking skills through evaluation of research and theoretical evidence. Method: This paper should be in APA format and include a title page and reference page. All references should be properly cited in the body of the paper and quoted material properly defined with quotation marks and page numbers in the citation. References need to include your textbook and 3-5 other sources. The paper should be well organized with careful attention to sentence structure, paragraph construction, grammar and spelling. The paper is to utilize 12-point font and 1-inch margins. Paper is not to exceed 8 pages in length excluding title page and reference page. Headings and subheading are to be used to organize your paper. Content: 1. Introduction: Begin the paper with a short introductory paragraph expressing the purpose of the concept analysis and why the chosen concept is significant to nursing practice. 2. Body: Definition of Concept: Provide a literature review which describes and cites a variety of sources to define the concept. At the end of this review, provide your own definition of the concept which incorporates synthesis and evaluation of definitions from the above sources. Attributes and Criteria: The attributes of a concept support identification of situations or behaviors that are best characterized by using the concept of interest. The cluster of attributes comprises the real-life definition of a concept, as opposed to the dictionary definition. Analyze current uses of the concept and arrive at the core defining attributes of the concept as it applies to nursing practice. Theoretical Links: Identify two theories that closely align with your chosen concept. Explain the relationship between the theory and concept. Context to Nursing and Health Care: Research and provide nursing practice examples of how your chosen concept can be applied within nursing practice. Interrelated Concepts: Research and provide examples of concepts within nursing practice that are interrelated with your chosen concept. Clinical Examples (Exemplars): From the list of core defining attributes you will use your creative thinking to identify three examples (exemplars) of your concept within nursing practice. Concept Measurement: Discuss any ways that have been developed to measure this concept and/or your ideas on observations, assessments, or measurements that could determine the presence or absence of the concept. It will not always be possible to identify exact measurement methods, but this should be addressed at least in terms of what should be done to develop ways of measuring for the concept. 3. Reflection and Conclusion: How do you incorporate the concept in your clinical practice, or how do you think it will apply to your future nursing practice? Finally provide a summary of your paper. Include the relevance of this concept to nursing and how this concept should be used and/or further developed. Evaluation: 1.
