GETTING STARTED

Open the file SC_WD16_1a_FirstLastName_1.docx, available for download from the SAM website.

Save the file as SC_WD16_1a_FirstLastName_2.docx by changing the “1” to a “2”.

0. If you do not see the .docx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.

To complete this SAM Project, you will also need to download and save the following data files from the SAM website:

· Support_SC_WD16_1a_Rain.png

With the file SC_WD16_1a_FirstLastName_2.docx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the footer.

· If the footer does not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.

PROJECT STEPS

You are helping to coordinate an audition for a local community theater and are creating a flyer for the event. Begin by changing the document theme colors to Green.

Make the picture of the umbrellas more eye-catching as follows:

a. Resize the picture to 2.1" tall.

b. Apply the Compound Frame, Black picture style.

c. Apply the Green, 5 pt. glow, Accent color 1 Glow picture effect. (Hint: Depending on your version of Office, the Glow picture effect may be named Glow: 5 point; Green, Accent color 1 instead.) [Mac Hint – Green, 5 pt. glow, Accent color 1.]

Your flyer will be used to invite community members to audition for a musical. Draw attention to the flyer’s headline paragraph “auditions” as follows:

d. Change the Paragraph Spacing Before to 12 pt.

e. Change the Paragraph Spacing After to 18 pt.

f. Change the case to UPPERCASE.

g. Change the font size to 36 pt.

h. Center the paragraph.

Bold the date “April 5” in the paragraph that begins “Monday, April 2…” to emphasize it.

Add the phrase as follows to the paragraph beginning “Actors, singers, and dancers…” so that it reads “Actors, singers, and dancers, please prepare for the audition as follows:”.

Create a bulleted list beginning with the paragraph “Adult singers…music with you.” and ending with the paragraph “Youth singers and dancers…at the audition.”

Emphasize the bulleted list as follows:

i. Change the font of the text in the bulleted list to Cambria.

j. Change the font color of the text in the bulleted list to Green, Accent 1, Darker 25% (5th column, 5th row in the Theme Colors palette).

Italicize the text “Tap dancing is encouraged” in the paragraph beginning “Adult dancers…”.

Delete the sentence “Accompanist provided.” in the same paragraph.

Apply the Outline text effect Lime, Accent 3 (7th column, 1st row in the Theme Colors palette) to the web address “www.hct.cengage.com” and the phone number “555-7611”.

Apply the paragraph shading Lime, Accent 2, Lighter 60% (6th column, 3rd row in the Theme Colors palette) to the entire paragraph beginning “Production information…”.

Insert a picture as follows:

k. In the blank line after the paragraph beginning “Production information…”, insert the file Support_SC_WD16_1a_Rain.png available for download from the SAM website.

l. Resize the picture so that it is 1" tall.

Apply the Center vertical alignment to the entire page.

Finish the flyer by adding a page border as follows:

m. Select a border style of your choosing. (Hint: To match the Final Figure on the following page, select the 4th option from the border Style list.)

n. Change the width of the border to 2¼ pt.

o. Change the border color to Turquoise, Accent 6, Darker 25% (10th column, 5th row in the Theme Colors palette).

Your document should look like the Final Figure on the following page. Save your changes, close the document, and then exit Word. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
