Name
Strayer University
Date
Introduction Paragraph (If you choose to download this and write on it, delete all the directions)
Place your introduction paragraph here. Provide a general overview of your topic. End with your thesis statement as your last sentence. Please underline your thesis statement. This intro should give an overview of your main assertion for the paper. For example (and you can choose to follow my suggested thesis here if you want): During the twentieth century the United States has become the "policemen" of the world through international incidents such as (then list your two chosen incidents here) and through changes in foreign policy after World War II.
Outline (delete my placeholder instructions and replace with the content; my additional suggestions are in red)
I. Three International Events from the past five years that can be traced back to a foreign policy created after the Civil War (10 years is ok if you have military experience and want to discuss something you experienced)
A. First one you will discuss goes here (briefly indicate in-text citation after each since this is required by the rubric)
B. Second one you will discuss goes here
C. Third one you will discuss goes here
II. Three Aspects of U.S. history since 1865 that have led to the U.S.'s rise as a world super power police force (Since the next section deals with post-WWII, this would be a good place to go further back into some of the pre-WWII turning points we have discussed. Chapter 20 in your text should be helpful, up through Chapter 23 on WWII.)
A. First aspect goes here (briefly indicate in-text citation after each)
B. Second aspect goes here
C. Third aspect goes here
III. Three to five international incidents since World War II where American has taken on a policing role (This could include major events of the Cold War, for example. Chapters 24 through the end of the book have plenty of potential material.)
A. First event goes here (briefly indicate in-text citation after each)
B. Second event goes here
C. Third event goes here
D. Fourth event goes here
E. Fifth event goes here
IV. Three to five driving forces that fueled international policy decisions involving the international incidents you outlined previously (consider treaties, exit strategies, elections, wars, etc.)—these should relate to issues you have previously discussed within the paper.
A. First force goes here (briefly indicate in-text citation)
B. Second force goes here
C. Third force goes here
D. Fourth force goes here
E. Fifth force goes here
References
· Make sure to keep the references section on its own page and delete the Instructions)
· **you must include at least three academic references. For exemplary credit use more than 3 . This assignment will almost certainly need more than three to do a good job.
· NOTE: Wikipedia and other generic-type websites (like ask.com, about.com, infoplease) are not acceptable. Academic journals from the library search engines are best. Click on the Resource Center tab at the top of Blackboard. See my video on the course home page for additional help.
· You can also use http://scholar.google.com/ - which will bring up scholarly references. If it asks you to pay - do not do that. You can write down the author and name of article and probably find it in the Strayer library resources.
· The library has a searchable database of all daily newspapers (most of which are behind paywalls on the open Internet), which could be helpful in the first section on recent events.
General APA format for a book in a reference list is like this, with the author’s last name or the organization listed first. See the LRC on iCampus for other types of formats:
