Dear HGTC Community,
As you may be aware, University of South Carolina system schools have experienced tremendous losses in the past week. At HGTC, we all work to provide a safe campus environment where our students can be successful. Dr. Harris Pastides, president of the University of South Carolina, has challenged USC students to pledge to take steps to increase safety when using ride-sharing services. In support of the efforts at USC, I urge you to join me in embracing the pledge. Pledge that you will NEVER use a ride-sharing service without doing the following: Ensure the license plate, make, model and color of the vehicle match the information in your app and the driver matched the photo and name in the app; AND Ask the driver “WHAT’S MY NAME?” If the driver doesn’t say your name, DO NOT get into the vehicle. Please review and stay familiar with these ride-sharing safety tips. Your safety is and will always be paramount to me and this college, and we work tirelessly with the Office of Public Safety to ensure all of you feel secure in your environment. Please do not hesitate to contact me, the Office of Public Safety, or the Office of Student Affairs at 843-349-5228 for additional safety and student resources.

The Defence of Fort McHenry
Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
