ASSIGNMENT
The Learning Team assignments for Weeks 4 and 5 are based on the article by Linden,
Baumann, Lieberei, & Rotter (2009) that is included with the assignments. (A second
article, Linden (2003), is also provided for background.) The article describes the
development of a scale to measure a clinical syndrome called post-traumatic embitterment
disorder (PTED). Your assignment is to create a two-part PowerPoint presentation
describing the development of the scale, based on the information in the article. You will
create Part 1 of the presentation for Week 4 and Part 2 for Week 5.
The table below describes the slides for you to include in Part 2 of the presentation. Note
that each topic might take more than one slide – for example, the discussion of VALIDITY
may require two or more slides to cover everything, so you would have two or more slides
with the title VALIDITY. Limit the total number of slides to 15, as described under FORMAT
SPECIFICATIONS below.
SLIDE TITLE CONTENTS
An appropriate title page, including the names of team members
PRINCIPLE
COMPONENTS
ANALYSIS
* Describe the two factors that were defined
* Describe how the factors relate to the core dimensions of
embitterment
VALIDITY * Describe the evidence for discriminant validity
* Describe the evidence for convergent validity
(These types of validity are defined in Chapter 6 of your text.)
FIGURE 3 * Interpret the information in Figure 3
* Describe how the information in Figure 3 relates to the validity
of the scale
CUT-OFF SCORE * What scores on the PTED Scale indicate the presence of PTED?
* How was the cut-off score chosen?
SUMMARY OF RESULTS In one slide, summarize the reliability and validity results
VALUE OF THE PTED
SCALE
* Describe how the PTED Scale can be useful for clinicians
LIMITATIONS OF THE
STUDY
Describe
* the limitations described by the authors
* any additional limitations your team might add
TEAM’S EVALUATION
OF THE PTED SCALE
