Assignment #1
HEXACO is a commonly used personality measure that assesses six domains of personality. Visit http://hexaco.org/ to take the test and find out more about the scale. Two versions of the test exist: self-report and observer-report. For this assignment, you will:
1. Complete the 100 item “Self” version of the HEXACO scale
2. Ask someone who knows you (e.g., friend, family, partner) to complete the “Observer” version of HEXACO about you.
3. Write a 500-1000 word short essay that discusses the results and attempts to explain any differences between these two measurements. Your paper should include:
a. An interpretation of your results (see: http://hexaco.org/scaledescriptions) and how your scores relate to average responses (see “Psychometric Properties of the HEXACO 100” on URCourses).
b. A discussion of where the self and observer measurements differed most and where they were most similar.
c. A discussion of the possible explanations for these differences (e.g., differing perspectives, information, or biases).
d. A discussion of the strengths and limitations of self-report and observer-report measurements (e.g., social desirability – see Krumpal 2011 paper on URCourses) and how these may have influenced your results.
