Example:
You are interested in finding out more about what people are talking about in social networks. There is little known about this topic.
Survey, Interview
Qualitative
Since little is known currently about this topic it would be best to gather data which could be analyzed for themes to learn more about the topic (Ayiro, 2012). The best way to do this would be either to interview subjects or possibly provide a survey to subjects asking open-ended questions to gather data about their social networking.
You would like to understand the public’s attitudes regarding gun control. You want to collect data that is generalizable to citizens living in New York City.
You are interested in understanding whether police officers are adequately trained to deescalate violent situations. You have been given access to the Miami-Dade Police Department, including officers and supervisors.
Recent arrest data have shown that the majority of violent crimes in Midtown are occurring in a particular neighborhood. There is not a lot known as to why this is happening and you want to explore possible reasons.
The aging population of prisoners across America is a growing concern for correctional systems. You would like to determine the types of health issues facing prisoners.
