you will need to support your answer with references from the text or video and make sure to use citation and references
To get you started, please watch this TED Talk video: Why I Left Westboro Baptist Church
Now that you have watched the video, please reflect on a time where you prejudged or discriminated against another person. Please do not say or think that you have not done it. We are ALL human, and our beliefs (religion, family upbringings, etc.) influence our behaviors.
Again, reflect on that experience and write a textually supported paper - two pages, double spaced - about that experience. Please be sure to make at least one video reference as well. I am looking for a minimum of two references--textbook and video.
Questions to Consider:
- What was my prejudgment or discriminatory behavior?
- Where does this behavior stem from (religion, family, etc.)?
- How did the other person react?
- Were there others in the room/area? If so, how did they respond?
- How did the situation end?
- Was there a resolution of any kind?
- Was there an apology?
- Did you ever regret your actions?
- What does the text and video say about my behavior/situation?
- Did you learn anything about tolerance? Diversity? Inclusion? Celebrating others?
Finally, for those of you who still want to believe that you have never prejudged or discriminated against anyone, consider your behavior against the following groups:
- Overweight people
- Short men
- Unattractive people
- Bald or short-haired women
- Outspoken women
- Big-nosed women
- Quiet people
- Loud people
- Tall women
- Poor child, woman, man
Of course, your situation does not have to come from the above list.
This assignment will challenge you to reflect on your behaviors towards others. I just ask that you are honest with yourself and reflect on YOUR behavior. I look forward to your transparency.
