The 5 major social institutions in our society are economy, government, family, religion, and education. The purpose of social institutions is that they act as regulatory agencies that guide our behavior and regulate our actions; they teach us norms and values. So we can look at all of these social institutions and say they all have a specific function in society. Economy - provides jobs, as well as good and services; government - maintains order; family - socializes its members; religion - provides moral, unifies us; education - provides knowledge and skills.
What are the most striking similarities between religion and education as social institutions? Think about all of the similarities in terms of what they do for society, how they are set up, any similarities you can possibly think of.
