Course Requirements
1. You must complete the 12 lesson assignments in the course. 2. Examinations: There are two online tests, plus one Midterm Exam and one Final Exam. The Midterm and Final Exams are both
proctored exams. Students living in Maricopa County must take these exams at a Rio Salado Testing Site. Students living outside of Maricopa County must arrange a proctor through Rio Salado’s Testing office. Plan well ahead of time.
3. Note: You must average 60% on the combined scores of your midterm and final exams in order to pass the course. 4. Remember that this is a three credit-hour class. As such, you will need to dedicate significant time to this course. Plan to
spend at least three hours on course content and at least six hours on homework for a total of at least nine hours each week. Be prepared to double your weekly class and study time if you choose an accelerated calendar.
Grading Procedure and Scale
Grading procedures are administered equally to all students in the course. Do not expect to receive a grade higher than that earned by your scored work. There will be no point adjustments made for such things as class participation or other subjective factors. There is no extra credit offered in this course.
Note to students: You must earn a minimum of 60% average on the Midterm and Final Exams in order to pass the course.
Grading Procedure
l Two Take-Home (online) Tests = 600 total points
Take-Home Test 1: 300 points Take-Home Test 2: 300 points (Take Home Tests include multiple-choice questions and a short essay.)
l One Midterm and One Final Exam = 1800 total points
Midterm Exam: 900 points Final Exam: 900 points (The Midterm and Final Exams include multiple-choice questions and a short essay.)
l Lesson Assignments = 1200 total points
12 Homework Assignments: 100 points each (submitted via www.masteringchemistry.com)
Grading Scale
Letter grades for assignments, examinations, and the course will be determined by the following scale:
Please Note: The grading procedure for this course is based on the total number of points possible.
Please note: Extra credit is not available for this course.

Final Grade Options
l Letter grade (A, B, C, D, F) — awarded if the student completes all work, including the final exam.
l Incomplete - Students who are doing acceptable work may request an incomplete grade “I” if they are unable to complete the course requirements by the end of the term because of illness or other extenuating circumstances. If the request is approved by the instructor, he or she shall define, in a written/electronic contract, how the course will be completed. Please Note: Instructors are not obligated to give incompletes.
l Withdrawal-Students may submit a withdrawal request on or prior to the “Last Date to Withdraw” indicated in their RioLearn Gradebook.
Students should not contact their instructor to request a withdrawal. A student wishing to withdraw from a class within the stated timeline must do so by visiting my.maricopa.edu. In extreme circumstances, students do have the option of requesting a complete withdrawal from the college by providing Student Enrollment Services with appropriate documentation.
