Statement of Purpose
1) What influenced your decision to apply to the Masters of Global Management program at Royal Roads University?
I hail from a middle-class respectable family with strong ethics and moral values. Every experience I talk about has been a stepping stone in my life, which opened my mind and honed my intellect, to absorb new learning. I have done my schooling from St. Mary’s High School, Mumbai, India. Due to my family conditions, I started working in an early age and took private tuitions until I entered corporate world. This incident has taught me the lesson of management. Since then, I have been managing all tasks like finance, personal life, and work life flawlessly. By now, I cultivated the habit of updating my managerial skills which in turn have made me capable to work under pressure and strength to accomplish the given task and achieve goals.
History depicts that every successful individual had sheer fortitude and urge to be a subject matter expert. At this juncture, enrolling for Masters of Global Management will definitely advance my managerial skills set as I would be gaining expertise in transnational Business.
Most of the Colleges and Universities facilitating Masters of Global Management, have same routine flow. But the factors that triggered my decision were Enhanced Learning Tools, where I can upgrade my synergy and ratio of student to faculty is 12:1 which is another add on. Royal Roads University has Ranked #1 Public University in Canada, for Active and Collaborative Learning and Level of Academic Challenge.
2) How have you gained the research, writing, critical thinking and numeracy/accounting skills necessary for success in this program?
I have been good at numbers since my school time. I used to find geometry a bit challenging, but I have always been blessed with prudent teachers/professors. My class teacher taught me the strategy to overcome the problems, with which I have become able to face numbers fearlessly. I have studied accounts for 5 years in my Junior and Degree College. I completed my graduation in Bachelor of Commerce from Mumbai University,
Since 2016, I am working into capital market. My role is to manage client’s portfolio like recommending which stocks to invest in and which stocks to continue investment for. This profile required profound skills like research & analysis (Critical Thinking), based on which I have to prepare the report (Writing). I have been performing this job since two years.
3) Students at the master’s level learn from their instructors, from their readings, from their experiences inside and outside the classroom, and from each other. What do you hope to contribute to the educational experience of your fellow students while you are in the program?
In school, I was an active participant in the extracurricular activities and sports, held annually. In eighth grade, I was the captain (of one of the four groups segmented for extra-curricular activities) and used to lead the group of more than 125 students, where I started cultivating leadership qualities like task distribution, setting goals, time management, risk management, decision making, charisma and so on. We had a school camp for 4 days where we had skill development activities like Treasure Hunt, General Knowledge Quiz, and Indoor Sports, where the group I served (RED HOUSE) was a clear winner with huge margins.
I took the opportunity to serve one of the top most banks in the world. I joined JP Morgan Services India Pvt Ltd., Mumbai Indian (2009-2014) . A bank with high morals and values taught me how to deal with pressure situations and demanding clients. Here, I got the opportunity to sharpen my leadership and managerial skills. In 2014, I started practicing as a “Certified Financial Planner”. During this phase from 2014-2016, I interviewed over 50-60 odd clients to understand their short-term and long-term financial objectives. Here, I developed skills like inoculating, analyzing, planning and other skills that are required for a start-up like setting up the vision and mission, monitoring key trends, team motivation, and budget management and so on.
Looking at the skill sets that I have developed during the time period of 10-12 years will definitely help my fellow students.
Also, I believe that success comes to only those who have hunger for knowledge. Having said that, if given the opportunity I would like to definitely share all my experience, skills and knowledge with fellow students and would like to gain expertise from the prudent professors at RRU and have a complete version of myself.
4) In 5-10 years, how do you anticipate this program will add value to your career?
I believe learning is an endless process and the skill set that I possess can be helpful to me to a certain level but needs to be updated with the ever-evolving market and work challenges. The courses I have found in Masters of Global Management at RRU will surely be an ideal upgrade to my prior skill set and will help me complement to international standard. The program will prove to be a perfect fit for my goals to accomplish in life based on international aspects like Accounting, Communication, Business strategy, Marketing, Comparative Management and others involved in the curriculum. I believe that my exposure to Finance Service Industry will give me a wonderful opportunity to be able to apply my acquired theory and knowledge on international level. I am planning to utilize these strengths while they relate to my interest.
To sum up all the learnings and experience that I will develop during and post this program, working as a head of some department in a top MNC or to settle as an entrepreneur while advising international business tycoons on their financial queries with ideal strategies, plans and implementations would be the best thing to contribute in my career anticipations.
With such qualifications and versatile personality, I would like to present myself as a candidate suitable to your Masters of Global Management program. I can assure you my total commitment, perseverance, patience and toil required for graduate studies who would be involved in all the aspect of the department, both curricular and extracurricular. I hope that the Admissions Committee finds my background and strengths corresponding to the requirements of the program.
