1 Business Research Methods Case Analysis “The Springfield’s Nor’easters: Maximizing Revenues in the

Case Title: THE SPRINGFIELD NOR'EASTERS: MAXIMIZING REVENUES IN THE MINOR LEAGUES (Email me right away if you have difficulty purchasing the case.) Answer the following questions I created for the case:

Q1: Given the information in the case, reconstruct the management-research question hierarchy by identifying and discussing the management dilemma, management question, and research questions.

Q2: Based on the research questions you reconstructed in Q1, identify and discuss major constructs and concepts relevant to the questions. These relevant constructs and concepts are your variables. Find a meaningful way (e.g., a model in the form of graph) to show how these variables are interrelated.

Q3: Identify and evaluate Larry Buckingham’s research design and implementation. In other words, identify and evaluate ALL the secondary and primary research studies he used and consider each step in the process that led to the final findings of his survey. Identify and discuss what studies he used and in what sequence. Evaluate the studies by exploring the issues of validity, setting, accomplishing research objectives, and analysis and interpretation. (Hint: The specifics of Buckingham’s survey questionnaire design should be saved for Q4 and the specifics of his sampling design should be saved for Q5. Discuss everything else here in Q3.)

Q4: Evaluate Larry Buckingham’s survey questionnaire design (Exhibit 5) by focusing on measurement level, wording, and order of questions. In addition, what is the response rate for his survey? Discuss response rate and possibility of nonresponse error/bias.

Q5: Identify and evaluate Larry Buckingham’s sampling design.

Q6: What do you consider to be the key findings of the Buckingham’s survey? Comment on what Buckingham learned about a prospective customer profile and pricing.

2 Important Reminders:

All similar sets of responses will receive grades of zero (0) for the entire assignment. If you feel the need to consult external resources, the ONLY sources you should use to help formulate your responses are literature, as long as you make certain cite properly.

For each main question, there are sub-questions. Make sure you answer ALL the subquestions. This is the basic requirement for your write-up.

Your write-up should be an essay that contains paragraphs (not just a bunch of bullet points). Do not label your responses using Q1, Q2, and so on. Instead, use a central theme to integrate all your responses in a coherent way. Do not include my questions/instructions in your write-up! You may use sub-headings to show key topics of discussion but do not copy and paste my questions/instructions in your actual writeup!

I do not have specific format requirements. However, use Times New Roman and font size 12. As usual, formal language must be used and your write-up should be professional, grammatically correct, neat, organized, succinct, and clear. You will be graded on your writing style (e.g., coherence, compelling argument, clarity, etc.). Common Mistakes Made by Students:

Evaluation not critical or thorough enough: Evaluation is an important learning outcome for graduate students. Simply identifying what has been done by the characters in the case is not sufficient. Evaluation must occur after identification. Evaluation means critique. Be critical! Any practice (even the good 3 one) can be improved. Focus on finding areas for improvement is a learned skill. Simply saying that everything is great is not a good critique.

Tables and figures not properly labeled: In a professional report or paper, all tables and figures MUST be properly labeled (e.g., "Figure 1: _________" or "Table 1: ________"). Then, every Figure and Table included in the paper MUST be referred to from the text. Use sentences that draw the reader's attention to the relationship or trend you wish to highlight, referring to the appropriate Figure or Table.
